I don't own a 360, but I still think it's a great idea.

After reading the article, it makes sense.

I don't see any real reason not too, but I certainly wouldn't play on any private xbox live servers. Private servers have always been around and have always been a free, poor quality, alternative to the servers that you pay for. My stance on private servers remains unchanged with this. Out of sight out of mind.

I own an xbox and don't agree with either answer so I abstain my vote.

Bad idea, unless you want to get rid of all the multiplayer achievements, unless of course, they only work on the main servers.

Oh wow, so now non-xbox players aren't allowed an opinion? Smells like trollbait to me?

How can more options be bad? Iy would be easy, you would have a server list along side a quick match option. Zero confusion.

It would be nice to actually see my ping as well. I'm bored of those stupid green/yellow bars.

Yes but moderation(bans, kicks, ect) is handled via LIVE, the only thing the end user has control over is game type ect but only if thats supported by the dev.

uhhh no?
(copy and paste: PC elitists shush)
cuz on the PC, you need to in order to find your friends and stick together
but with the party system on Live, you basically can do that without having your own server...honestly I'm not sure why people keep tooting that horn

make it a private custom game and make it friends only
OH WAIT Halo let's you do that but I don't know about other games...hm
ah okay I see why now, I see
but whatever, my computer is not for gaming

I think it would be worth the gamble. But, we'll never know if it will work or not if Microsoft isn't willing to offer us that option.

I can't imagine that being a great idea for 360, maybe if you earned it or if you had to sign something.

Seriously the community I've played with are mostly assholes with "fag and [you know what the next one is, I don't feel like risking getting banned]" being their punctuation marks. I've played Gears 1,2, borderlands, GTAIV, Red Faction, Castle Crashers, and there wasn't a single match that didn't have at least 2 people being complete assholes. And I can't imagine letting them moderate anything more than their own breathing.

If you're on Xbxlive I'm aiming no hostility at you, if you play fair and don't do these things, don't take this toward you. I've had nothing but bad experiences over the years playing online and I'm told I'm just unlucky.

Make them pay for the server, make them apply for a server, give the community ways to report admin abuse. Maybe then, otherwise they can take what they get.

Uhh... wait. You mean to say that they can't do that the moment?

Wow.
Where the hell have you been?

Dear Microsoft,
Please read Shamus' article and look at the results of this pole.

Sincerely,
A paying customer.

PS, I'm willing to leave you.

why should the xbox get the special treatment? I say PS3 should be able to as well.... hell it even makes more sense on the ps3.
Both should get it, but most people are pissed at the fact that valve can't freely update their Xbox 360 games on Live because of the stupid rules.

Also, PS3 has free online, you should be grateful for that. =P

Naw have it set up that your bandwidth is used by the server but have no control over it other than what game you want to do a server for, and what type of game mode the server runs, moderation will handled by LIVE like any other server..

I am, don't misunderstand that, I was merely saying this would be nice on both, not just one.

Referencing how PC gaming does it does not work when PC gaming is dying and obsolete.
Oh that old chestnut.

PC gaming is doing better than ever if you count in digital distribution and dedicated rented servers is the only proper way to play multiplayer. I'd rather have the choice than not, it's not like games on Windows don't have a "quick match"-option as well.

Well, that's what PC games do, and I have very rarely ever had problems with idiots on any PC games. So yes, it's a good idea, and it should have been implemented in Xbox Live from the start.

A great idea. However i've seen many people on TF2 on the 360 who haven't started the game despite it being say, 12/16 or more.
