Question on Fallout companions

This is just a simple question: can you essentially use your companions in New Vegas to just carry extra shit around for you?

My particular situation: I'm about to embark on a playthrough where I will be in need of faction uniforms to disguise myself in order to avoid their various levels of hatred for me. I know ED-E can be used as extra storage. So I was gonna take her along, but then I realised, upon looking at a list of companions and their associated perks and uses, that the combination of Boone and Rex will be best for my upcoming foray into the Wasteland.

So to shorten it down: can I use Boone and Rex as dumping grounds for my extra disguises and stuff?

Boone cannot hold any Faction uniform besides NCR

I am not sure about Rex though. He should be able to hold any.

I thought that all companions can carry anything, Boone just won't wear any uniform except NCR. I usually get him to carry all my rubbish.

It's just that I've heard people always talking of using ED-E as random storage for their shit so they won't get overburdened.

But I've never heard anyone talk of using any of the other companions as pack mules though, so I thought I'd check in case I amass many disguises, only to have it come to pass that I have to lump them all around myself.

Also OP, why do you assume ED-E is a she? I'm just curious.

I dunno actually. Just always seems natural to refer to ED-E as female.
