Question regarding my Netbook.

Every time I try to listen to music through Windows Media Player or edit an episode of a YouTube show, I'm bombarded by a prompt that says Windows is trying to install the "Roxio CinePlayer Decoder Pack." It is incredibly annoying. Especially when I'm trying to edit, because lately it freezes whatever video editing program I'm using to the point where I have to end the editor's process through the Task Manager.

Now, I've gone through and deleted/removed any thing and seemingly everything on my computer having to do with "Roxio" but the thing is still popping up.

I'm wondering if anyone here has a way (preferably free) of getting rid of this nuisance.

I had one idea, but I'm having doubts. I'm thinking of just re-installing windows xp and basically starting over with this thing. My concern is that I'm wondering if for example the driver for my audio device, "RealTek HD Audio" will still be present on the system.

I don't know much of anything when it comes to the hardware of the computer. There seems to be some tech-savvy people here, so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the roxio product suite? (if you have it for a reason that is :p)

You may be able to remove it using Windows Cleanup Utility to remove the installer entry to prevent it from coming up. Go here -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

I can recommend getting rid of Windows entirely for your Netbook and switching over to something like Ubuntu 11.04 (probably best), Crunchbang or something of that nature. All free.

Respect for video editing on a netbook.

Otherwise; what thejdcole said.

It would probably be easiest to try and find a friend that is more tech-savvy than you are; these things tend to go easier when you can work on the issue IRL.

Good luck.

I have windows on my netbook and it runs just fine, a bit slower than I want perhaps but that isn't an issue with windows.
That's great for you! Yes it is an issue with Windows, just as it is an issue with Windows that it will continue prompting for a Roxio product.

No full OS that I know of is super-fast on a Netbook though.
