So I picked up Team Fortress 2 the other day when it was going for $2.50. Mainly because I thought that if it doesn't work on my laptop then "Oh Well". So after playing it for 10 hours+ there are still some thing that i still can't figure out. I tried asking in game and got such great responses as "OMG STFU NOOB!" and "Ugh" and who can forget "Lol u suk" so I decided to come here to get a answer at least so here we go.

1. What does the secondary shot on the pyro's flamer do?
2. How do I enable my mic into the game
3. Why do my video settings change from time to time? In order for me to play this I have to put everything on the lowest setting and sometimes when i join a game I'll experience lag after 2 people try shooting at me and after some deduction I find that my video settings have been changed to high.

Needless to say besides these issues I have enjoyed this game surprisingly. I was expecting more levels with Gabe Newell / Gordon Freeman shrines but haven't found any...yet. I was also pleased with how balanced it is for a FPS with classes.

1. Pretty sure it puts out friendly players who are on fire, but don't ask me.
2. Should be in either Audio or Multiplayer settings.

1. Puts out flaming team mates and pushes enemies back.
2. In the controls menu, an enable voice chat command that you can bind.
3. Fuck knows.

1. Its a compression blast, it pushes back missiles and stickies, can put out team mates on fire and it can blast enemies into the air (good for breakin up uber pairs).
2. Options, Audio, Advanced area
3. Check to make sure you dont have nVidia control panel or similar forcing its settings over your game preferred settings.

1. What does the secondary shot on the pyro's flamer do?

It allows you to shoot an air blast which can

A) push enemies backwards, off ledges, juggle ubers up in the air ect,
B) Put out teammates who are on fire
C) Deflect projectiles like Rockets and stick bombs.

2. How do I enable my mic into the game

Should just plug it in before you boot up the game and press c/v down for when you wish to talk.

3. Why do my video settings change from time to time? In order for me to play this I have to put everything on the lowest setting and sometimes when i join a game I'll experience lag after 2 people try shooting at me and after some deduction I find that my video settings have been changed to high.

Hmm you might want to ask over at the 2fort forum there quite helpful or alternativily at the link below our very own Escapist team fortress 2 group, games get arranged occasionally so you might want to join and play with us some time :D.

Well, when you get those responses you're obviously on the wrong server, go find one with players who can explain you something with getting annoyed.
1. The compression blast.
You can use it to put out fires on allies, juggle people up in the air and deflect any non-bullet projectile.
2. Plug it in, go to the voice menu and configure it.
3. Who... knows?
And yes.. it is probably the most balanced FPS (with classes) out there.

Oh, and whatever you do.. don't go to achievement-servers, you'll regret it.

Airblast
Abbreviations: AB, CB (compression blast)

It's the secondary fire of the normal flamethrower, (sometimes called AB)

The basic stuff has been posted but if you really want to learn everything it can be used for go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8-00nwyK9Q&feature=player_embedded for a relly good user made tutorial.

I'm sure the Escapist server won't just say "lol stfu noob".

If you can't find any friendly servers just message me, I know a great one, it's a bit blue, but you'll make some friends.

Pretty sure all your questions have been answered at least twice.

Ask the Escapist TF2 group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC] for anything else or people to play with. We also sort some TF2 related events every now and again. :)

Seeing as how everyone has pretty much already answered 1 and 2, I'll give some insight to 3.

Make sure you aren't forcing a certain DirectX level on start up. Right click on TF2 in Steam, and go to Properties then "Launch Options" (or something akin to that, I'm going from memory). If you've forced, let's say DirectX 8.1 (-dxlevel 81), then just remove it. You only have to force the Direct X level once, after that it should always start at that level.

But you may not have done that, and now I sound like a jabbering mental patient. But on my old computer I had to specify the Direct X level, and every time I did it reset my video settings, so *shrug*, hopefully this helps.
