This never really pisses me off, unless the senior is an utter ****** who is openly bigoted against the blacks, arabs, the irish, the mexicans, and them damn catholics with every alternate word. I never stand in line if i don't have spare time so i can wait a few more minutes for my five dollar footlong, I never really am in a hurry i guess
Anyone else find this post a bit ironic?
I feel left out, i don't get this joke, but i get the idea it's an insult :( I suddenly feel like i am a freshmen again
Explaination time! "This never really pisses me off, unless the senior is an utter ****** who is openly bigoted against the blacks, arabs, the irish, the mexicans, and them damn catholics with every alternate word". He is calling a senior who is a racist a '******' which in it's self its pretty much the pot calling the kettle black as my Grandma would say.
OOOOOOOOOH, thaaaaaaaaaats what you meant, i thought you were making a crack about my personality or something, i use ****** with the meaning a bundle of dry twigs, sticks, or branches, implying that all these people do nothing for the benefit of anyone (including themselves) except sit there gathering dust and occasionally verbally catching fire to be openly bigoted about the blacks, arabs, irish, mexicans, and them damn catholics .
Fair enough, hard to convey different meanings of words over the net.

Start talking to them and make them feel like an asshole by lying about tragedies in your life. Then while you're talking, slowly stand next to them, then in front of them. Or just step in front of them but not sure what kind of reaction you'll get.

I've lived in TN, KY, CO, MI, NY and MA. Visited a lot of states, but have seen some of that self-involved behavior in FL.

Simply saying "Excuse me, I'm on line" usually does the trick. You say it just loudly enough to shame them into thinking someone else heard you call them out, and they'll inevitably apologize usually say something to the effect of not realizing you were there.

I have no problem being polite, but there's a line for a reason. Their money isn't any more valuable, and everyone has somewhere they'd rather be than waiting around to be served.

You are faster stronger, better looking (I hope) and more agile, just use it as tools in the daily and ongoing grocery war...

Don´t be a stranger to a well placed "punt/elbow" predicting and intersecting the path of the elder citizen...

Be prepared though, they are likely to come against you armed with walkers, shopping carts or (god forbid) behind the wheel of a a Segway.

It happens a lot here, for some reason old people think that they have a right to be respected, just for living longer. It seems that they never learned that respect is a two way thing, and surviving the war is all well and good, but if you can't be polite, then why should I care?

Happened to me at the airport, actually. Our flight had been canceled, so we all had to line up and wait to be assigned to other flights. Old woman said "you don't mind if I get in front of you, do you?" and I said, yes, actually, everyone had to wait. She proceed to tell me what a terrible person I was, she'd had a horrible day, I should be ashamed of myself. I told her we'd all had horrible days, and she could take a seat and call the customer service number (which the airline rep had suggested we could all do) and that way she wouldn't have to stand in line at all. She said she couldn't do that - "I can't explain why."

Some people are worthy of respect. Others are merely worthy of a kick in the shins.

That's because most people here would just bump them out of the way and old folks don't want broken hips.

What was it Jerry Sadowitz said - 'Fucking old people, they should all be shot at birth!'

Anyway, not my opinion, I just think its a great line, heh.

In a similar vein to what I've said below tho, its not all blind people, however if you meet a few and they're all rude or arrogant and push thru queues, then its no wonder people build up a world view of them. It's partly why when I was really into metal and had the denim jacket covered in big metal spikes and hair down to my waist, I tried to be polite and helpful to everyone, in a bid to prove not everyone is a mindless thug just because they like the sound of a guitar.

I still remember the strange reactions of some people where this hulking great metal freak would get stopped in the street by some little old lady for a chat. It's all too easy to judge on first impressions.

In a similar vein tho, when I worked in the music and movie store, we had a college for the blind nearby, and one blind guy used to come in and play it up SO much, he'd use his stick to push thru queues, and demand instant attention etc.

Now, I know I'm not going to get much sympathy here, but we probably had 10-20 regular blind customers, and only he used it to get extra service, we'd go out of our way to assist everyone, and we'd always help the blind customers if we could, but it doesn't give you the right to push thru a queue. Now I'm british, and queueing is part of our culture here, heh.

I'd be happy to serve him if someone chose to allow him to go first, but eventually we decided to inform him that other people were in the queue, and we'd serve him when it was his turn.

Note we didn't not like him because he was blind, we had a fair few blind customers, but that he was intensely irritating and rude and played up his disability, if he was fully sighted and an annoying git, we'd still dislike him. A white stick is not there to tap people out of your way.

Not necessary. I read something you posted, and made a comment on it. That's what a forum is for.

doesn't really happen in Britain, see we've got this thing going where most of the people over 30 fear the people under 30, and would be far to timid to do something like that.

Its never happened to me. But I have had a few old people expecting me to give up my seat for them on a bus, which I normally reply with a blank look until they turn away.

I tend to give off a vibe that tells people I will skin them alive if they jump in front of me. Maybe its the walk, maybe its the psychotic glare because I missed my hit of caffeine that morning, maybe its the brand new full length trench coat and full reacted lenses?

Maybe its the fact that word gets around that a'll push people out of he way who queue jump and openly call them an asshole for it.

Who knows.
