So, I got an e-mail from my boss how I was fitting into my new "roll" at work, and I replied saying my new "role" was great. She laughed it off as a spelling error, but then the Extra Credits video today discussed the "roll" of cutscenes in gaming today. So, is there another definition of "roll" I don't know other than the delicious bread we eat at meals?

It's "role", in this case.

Definitely "role".

One "rolls" a dice, or eats a "roll", but fills a "role".

You were correct in the context. The problem is that people rely on spell check too much. They look for the little red squiggle line announcing an error but they forget it only checks spelling NOT GRAMMAR. As a homonym it was spelled correctly but used incorrectly. They get lazy and it pisses me off. Especially the use of "their" "there" and they're". You learn about it in school but people don't give a shit and it makes them sound retarded. Similarly the overuse of the word "like" you now hear used EVERY OTHER F***ING WORD!!

This is actually trickier than it looks, but I think the context demands 'role' and not "roll". See, 'roll' also implies a "roster", so you could, technically, be ready to be included in the new roster. But I don't that is what your boss meant.
