This has to be the pettiest reason I've ever made a thread and I promise never to do it again but just help me out with this please.
This has been driving me mad, can someone tell me what the lyrics are from 2:28-2:24?
Link if embed doesn't work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78e-QaA5BBo
I think it's because the song is so old is the reason why I can't find the lyrics.
In any case, I've looked everywhere, tried everything, and NOTHING has worked. I wouldn't be asking you guys if there was ANY other way that I could think of.
I'm sorry, it's just that this is driving me crazy.
So take pity upon my plight and help me ease my mind if you would be so kind.

I think he said, 'I beg for a nickel
Put it in my telephone'
Dunno, if that's supposed to make any sense in the context of the song, I only listened to part that you specified (2:24 to 2:28).
EDIT: OP is a duck who puts the time backwards.

Do you mean the other way around?

It's definitely:

I beg for a nickel,
Put it in my telephone.
Yeeesss beg for a nickel,
Put it in my telephone.

Or are you referring to the bit just before that I could barely make out as well? Because I could hear this part easily, I don't know how you'd miss that.

She said I need your card
Everyday, and every whole (hole?) and every dime.

I had the time backwards AND had the wrong section? Wow, I must be more tired than I thought...
Anyway.
YES, it was the part before.
Thank you so very, VERY much.

Well, I hope that's what he's saying, I can see how you've been tearing your hair out trying to understand it. I thought he was talking about a car, but in context with the bit before, he's referring to money.

Oh, spending all my money
No, she don't want my kind of jive.
She said I need your card (or car)
Everyday, and every (whole? like, what does that mean?) and every dime (or even time).

It's just the "whole" bit I'm confused with. It doesn't make as much sense.

I think it might be "car" because in the follow up song "Answer to Big Town" he says something about getting on a train to get back home. But like you said, he's been referring to money so it's probably "card".
I'm going to assume "every dime" simply because it sounds more like that.
As for the "whole" thing... I'm just going to chalk that up to the "swingin' fifties lingo that I don't get" column.

I did a quick google research, and he's definitely talking about a credit card - apparently their use spiked in the 50s after the war, despite being made in the 20s. So in getting down with the lingo, that bit makes sense.

I even looked up 50s slang, and can't find out what "every whole" means. Maybe it's referring to the new found ability to keep a "whole" lot of money on your card in your pocket. I really don't know.

And there's my over-helpful analysis.

Well, always better to help too much than not enough.
Man, I didn't know finding out some lyrics would take so much work...
Anyway.
I'm going with
"Every day, every whole, and every dime"
And I don't care what anybody says.
Thanks for helping me figure it out.
