So I decided to say fuck-off Xbox Magazine and I stuck with my plan to buy SH:Homecoming. To be honest, I am surprised on how good it actually turned out to be. Now I've only been playing it for a couple hours so I still have yet to understand a single thing about the story, but there are improvements in terms of game-play.
Before I mention how incredibly improved the camera is, I would like to question the morons who say that this isn't a Silent Hill game without the "cinematic" camera angles....Right....Now I won't lie, I didn't really HATE the camera angles, but it never really stuck out as the pinnacle of Silent Hill. The new camera is an exterior third person view that gives you a look from the back of the person looking forward. Now we are able to manage the camera and have it look exactly where we want it to look, where we are facing! I have yet to meet any of the various intensely frustrating camera angles of the previous so for that I am glad.
The second thing they took and axe to and reconstructed was the combat...Oh yes the combat...What they have done is taken a minor, insignificant part of the game and improved so that you can do a bit more then pull off the same combo over, and over, and over again. Now you are able to mix up your strong and weak attacks into a very smooth combo. Also with the addition of the dodge button you can now maneuver away from enemy attacks without having to tuck your tail between your legs or shimmy slowly around (With the new increased speed of the enemies, that has become obsolete anyway.) Now I know there were skeptics and fanboys who have bellowed foul play for touching their beloved horrid combat system, but I say fuck off and accept improvement with open arms.
Last, but not least the enemy difficulty. Besides the boss fights, Silent Hill never really frightened me with their vast assortments of enemies, but that has changed for the better. From having to quickly target and dodge an dog charging you from behind (Happened once while I was staring at the "Missing Posters" (Spoiler?,) to rolling away past enemy attacks to flee like the pussy I am, the enemies have gotten a much needed shot of steriods. What they have done to level this out though is vastly decrease the amount of enemies, so as before you would come across 15-20 enemies while dashing down the streets of Silent Hill 2 or the mall of Silent 3, instead you might face 5-10 incredibly bad-ass monstrosities that could wipe the floor with their ancestors. I have heard claims of the copy and pasting of old enemies, but eh I think they have improved on it enough to be acceptable.
Well that is my first look...I will say again that I have yet to play through more then a couple of hours of this so the story and longevity of the game is still in question, but what has been shown is in need of a gold star for most improved.
