Can people use this group to explain this next time, as it helps inform the staff a lot quicker and helps get answers faster as well. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/Tech-Team]

Hey, bit of a bug, but as several users have mentioned, images such as avatars and badges aren't working, as well as various hyperlink buttons [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.147118?page=1]. Is there any specific reason for this or is it simply an accidental bug?

See? So yeah, they're looking into it, but they don't know what's up with it either currently.

EDIT: Cool, mine are back now as well.

If any of you that can't see the images have Firebug, head to the Images menu and Find Broken Images. Click on a couple of the ones listed and (if they don't load when you click) PM me the url from the address bar - it'll look a lot like "cds007.ch2.cdn.themis-media.com/garbledygook/lots/of/directories/etc.etc=etc"

Some of you without Firefox & Firebug may be able to right-click on the missing image location and pick 'View image', as well.

If the missing image(s) show up when you View image or use Find Broken Images, try forcing a browser cache refresh by hitting Ctrl-F5 a couple times on the page.

[edit] we'll use this thread for troubleshooting now, but as Zombie_Fish says, the Tech Team user group is the place to shine the bat signal to get our attention on a potential problem

Thanks!

I was previously unaware of the 'Tech Group', but I will use it next time with all my... tech... related... needs... yeah.

Anywho, this is the first major problem I've come across in my 3 months on the Escapist, so I'd imagine that deserves a congratulations!

I'm on Firefox and i see nothing.

I've only just figured out where the quote button is after mousing over the screen looking for it.

90% of the people affected appear to be from a particular geographical region of the world (those of you affected will likely be able to guess, but some of you don't have a country specified in your profile, so I'm not giving it away), and something between you and our CDN seems to be throwing a fit. As for the other 10%, you're a few hops further on the internet pipeline from those affected, and your traffic is likely routed through the affected region.

Don't worry here's a wonderful picture that safely describes how to fix the problem and how to have infinite money and marry 400 soon not to be virgin wives. right below this message.

Interesting picture eh? Enjoy your wives!

Occasionally I pop on here and the images are gone but that is sometimes my browser. Other times I can go to another site and its perfect so I am guessing its the site, it is usually fixed by a quick restart or just waiting a bit and everything works fine.

Yup, Uk Chrome user. Mine are gone too. I've also had some issues with the forum table layout putting the Edit, Quote, reply buttons to the side and cutting off large chunks of posts.

We had a failure on one of our servers and were running at reduced capacity for a day or so until Kross could get everything back up and running again. Should be back to normal by now.

Images just returned to normal, I have no idea what was going on.

Coding issues maybe for over seas?

Time to stick your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodbye. This may be the end of life as we know it.

Our site is mostly at point A, media (images/videos) are located at B, C, and D, and the people experiencing problems were at point X.

The internet connections between X and A were fine, hence why you could still get here. Lets say the closest media location to X happens to be B, and something affected X <-> B, so some or all of the media seemed to be missing. People in other parts of the world connect to C or D (etc), and don't see any problems.

As for what affected that one connection - could have been a variety of things, from a guy with a backhoe, to whales singing too close to one of the cross-atlantic cables, or secret military signal experiments with unexpected side effects (can't recall the town in the UK, but a bunch of cars were disabled by one such event).
