Do the collect-a-thon sidequests have any effect on the sequel? You know, the Asari Matriarch writings, the salarian ID tags, the league of one medallions, the metals, the gasses, etc.?

Because I'm done all the main sidequests and Virmire and Noveria, and want to just finish up ME1 to get straight to the sequel. Which means going to Feros, and then from there, to the endgame.

oh thank god. One more thing, does the quest involving finding that guy on the Citadel's brother matter?

Because its glitched, and I can't land on the planet that he's supposed to be on.

The choices that matter are: your ending level, whether you had spectre gear, your gender, your Paragon/Renegade scores, your love interest, your pre-service history, your psych profile, and some decisions you'll have to make at the end of the game.
Also, you'll get little references to quests in ME1 when you revisit some places. If you left Fist alive, for instance, you'll find him at yet another nightclub.
Gasses, keepers, metals, etc, don't count for anything (I'm not 100% certain, but I'm almost there)

From what I can tell, no, no sign of that sidequest mention.

Haven't seen anything related to it in ME2. Nothing on the ME wiki about it carrying over either.

Edit: You need to search for the ship in the system with the planet first before you can land on it. Should be near the planet somewhere.

Enter the Strenuus system of the Horse Head Nebula. Search the area above and to the left of the planet Xawin for the MSV Majesty. Scanning the ship will reveal a radiation trail leading to the planet Xawin (note that it is impossible to land on Xawin prior to scanning the ship). Land in the Mako, and drive to the privateer base. Clear the privateers around and within the base. A word of warning though: they have not one, but two Krogan Battlemasters, making this a very tough fight. It may be a good idea to leave this mission aside until you have leveled up a bit.

Willem's body can be found on the top floor in the back room, along with a datapad that can be brought back to Garoth in the Citadel Tower.

Thanks people. Seriously, though. I hope missing 4-5 sidequests doesn't stop me from getting Turian Ally and Quarian Ally.

Thanks. I'll go do that. I went around each planet in the game in a giant circular pattern (rock planets are annoying as fuck!) and found everything except for 4 protean data discs and two league medallions.

it seems that most of the decisions at the ending carry over, and also what happened to Wrex. Also it appears some of your decisions in 1 may carry over to Mass Effect 3. I did run into something strange though. during my ME1 playthough I didn't do the Feros sidequests, but I kept recieving emails at my private terminal and news briefs on illium that made it sound like I did. anyone else notice this?

Nope, I've blasted through the main campaign a few times and you get all the team members. You also get slightly different characters/dialogues depending on what you did at certain points in the last game - still can't find Emily Wong in #2, though...

I DID punch the news reporter who gives you the loaded interview in #1, though. That. Was. Awesome.

The spectre gear had an effect? Really? I've heard no mention of it apart from Verner saying that he had a replica of my armour... A crap replica given that I was wearing Collossus.

Many side quests do get mentioned in emails recieved. If you scan the keepers, Morban emails you to inform you that every 50,000 years they cause the citidal to send off a signal, and they're about to get another signal sent off if his calculations are anything to go by... I really wanted to arrange a meeting with him just to explain everything.

I'm talking about the achievements for using each ally for 80% of the game.

That signal was the one which the Protheans blocked in ME1, which was why Saren needed to use the Conduit as a backdoor to the citadel. Chorban was late.

Hence why I wanted to arrange a meeting with him. And Emily Wong. Onboard the collector base, with the DNA and various other pieces of proof concerning the Reaper's existence... I would end this news report with the words "Fuck you Turian" directed at the councilor.

No, they don't mention these in ME2, but obviously level does matter when importing a character, and more side-quests completed equals higher level. A level 40-something doesn't get as many bonuses as a level 50-something, and a level 50-something doesn't get as many as a level 60. But if you're already 50-something and don't see yourself reaching 60, don't worry about it.
I'll be a 40 something. Unless Feros and the endgame gets me from 43 to 50.
