So I realize that this thread is guaranteed to be locked (which I'm counting on) but I find it worth enough to me if it means not having to sift through the internet for an answer. My question is: what would an actual oxygen destroyer (like in the original Gojira) actually do?
For reference, here is the clip from Godzilla: King of the Monsters of its use:

I would imagine it destroys oxygen atoms, causing any organism in the area that require oxygen to asphyxiate.

It's the same principle as how a large enough fire can use up all the oxygen in an area and cause victims to suffocate, as witnessed during the Allied incendiary bombing of Axis cities in which more people died from asphyxiation than were burnt to death, killed by collapsing buildings or died from smoke/carbon monoxide inhalation.

As for an Oxygen Destroyer device, I would imagine it works a bit like an atomic device, but causes a slow and steady chain reaction of oxygen atoms to be destroyed (rather than a quick explosion), which would deplete all the oxygen from the area it's deployed in, and in the example from the film, I would imagine using such a device underwater would turn all the water to hydrogen gas as the oxygen was destroyed.
