hey is windows 7 like windows vista, as in does it need double the ram to run games that xp needs? i.e., windows needs 500mb of ram to run a game while vista needed 1gig

No, the OS's are the thing's taking up your memory. I have 4 gigs on 64 bit 7 and everything works alright. I'm also getting new graphics card for my b-day.

It uses less resources than Vista from what I've heard, haven't had a chance to test this properly yet.

Ran a few games on the pre prelease and 7 got a few more FPS quite a few times, can't remember exact numbers. I'm sure you could find other peoples benchmarks online.

Meh, it uses around the same memory amount as Vista, though it's much more flexible with its Superfetch data compared to Vista (they cache frequently used programs to unused RAM in order to launch it faster the next time it's used), which does give it somewhat of an edge when running memory-intensive applications; which is pretty much the general story between Vista (at least SP1) and 7 performance.
