Quoting problem

Sorry if I put this in the wrong forum but I think there is a problem with the quoting system for the escapist.

For example someone could have said something like:

"I hate the Watchmen."

Then I could change it and put in:

"I love the Watchmen, here's my bank number, please help yourself to everything I own!"

This is also a problem with other forums. Some people might say that sometimes you might want to quote just one thing out of a wall-of-text. Then I think the new system should be the quote box should appear in the post box and you can highlight stuff and delete them, but you can't add anything.

Well, as long as people aren't being dicks, I don't see the problem with the quoting system.
At least the way it's set up now gives us an easy way to discern who the true grammar nazis are.
And I don't know what kind of coding that would require, but I'm betting it would be quite extensive.

Whilst that could be a good idea, the text box is just a text box, and a quote is just BB coding. It could make things a bit complicated on Virgil's behalf to set up. Bear in mind that the advantage of it this way is that you can also make quotes off other sites stand out if you want, and having that design could make that hard to do.

People here are generally trustworthy enough to not do such things as you have mentioned. And it's not exactly that hard to contact a mod if someone has done this to you.

In fact, I have never seen anyone change someone else's quote without saying something such as "fixed."

Me either, I don't think(aside from this jack~ass~ishness) that I have ever seen someone change a quote, other than fixing it. It would kind of defeat the purpose if you are trying to make a legitimate point... Plus it would be a lot of useless work and be kind of well, useless.

well the ability to edit text stops big walls of quote text from happening, tho i guess they could write something to cut that down as well

but it's just a lot of work to do that and not sure if they would want to do that, easier just to delete stuff

You could make it so the box was copypasteable (yes I know that's not a word). This is just a theoretical program but in all probability it's possible.

Oh yes and that occurred to me after I posted that, I'm just sort of explaining it now.
