Yeah a 3RL issue is pretty much boned. I recommend going ahead and picking up one of the new 360 S consoles if you can afford it. Seems to be less issues with those thus far. On the downside you wouldn't be able to use your old hard drive or memory units (also no RROD because there is no ring of lights). As far as cooling goes they seem to have nixed that issue with the new system, but the hardware issues are yet to be seen as the system is still fairly new. If nothing else it should get you through to the next console generation.

Why is it that Microsoft can't make their console work again? They even knew that the reliability was abysmal when the 360 was in development and they didn't give a crap.

I'm not taking sides. I'm not a fan of Sony's products. I haven't bought a single Nintendo product since the DS. It simply makes zero sense to me that you should even be thinking of continuing your support of a company like Microsoft. They don't fix their problem hardware, they charge you for services that are free on every other platform, and they nickle and dime you every chance they get.

I always kind of find it funny when I hear people's xbox's RROD or break down, my Xbox is a Pro (which they don't make anymore) and people always tell me how it has the highest chance of red ringing, mine is still going strong.

I say just tough it out and get the slim. In my experience the newer the 360 the longer it takes before it keels over.
My only real reason for this is because every time one dies, I buy the latest one and it lasts longer. /shrug

Just fix it yourself. It costs about 20 bucks at Radio Shack and about an hour in time to do it. you just nned to reapply the thermal compound between the cpu, gpu and both heat sinks. easy.

I for one stopped buying them after it broke the second time, I will never understand why people constantly continue to repurchase Xbox's despite the fact that they constantly brick on them. I work in retail, and there are people I've met or known who've gone through 4 or more. Seriously, after the 4th, you've spent close to a thousand dollars on the damn thing. I could build a pretty bitching gaming pc for that much.

I'm not a fanboy, I just prefer to determine the cost vs value and the way it seems, you're spending way too much money on something so unreliable.

And you also have to shell out extra money to get new video cards and such every other month if you want to actually enjoy good games. I've got a decent PC that I game on and I consider this a major downfall to consoles. With my 360 I can just breathe easier knowing that, until they make the next system, I can play whatever fucking game I want without worrying about the frame rate or turning down the resolution.

I had this 3 times and the first time they just completely ignored my warranty - and that was a 2year coverage which i wasn't even 1 year into! After the 3rd time I just completely gave up and realized that the -BEEP- would never give me any problems and just switched to that.

$100 is a lot of money for a college student XP My staff writer job at the campus paper only pays me 75$ a month... that's not even half of minimum wage over here XD

The extra money you shell out for computer components every few years is nowhere near as expensive as replacing an xbox EVERY year, assuming you're that unlucky.

Also console games are formatted for higher screen resolutions, but are rendered below 720. PC's render the games themselves in whatever res you play on, which is why they run better on an Xbox. So yes, you don't have to worry about turning down the res, because it's already down....way down.

Condescending and unprovoked hostility gets people places on the internet. To be completely honest I could care less about giving Microsoft a booboo by refusing to do business with them because in the long run it doesn't matter at all. I have a bunch of games for the Xbox and I like playing it, so if I have to jump through a few extra hoops in order to do so I may ***** and moan, but in the end I will be happy playing my Xbox. Call me a sheep or a mindless consumer if you want, but I couldn't care less how my business affects a corporate giant like Microsoft. Unless I burn down a factory or buy a factory's worth of Xbox's I'm not making a bit of difference in their revenue.

Yeah it's nuts. My Dreamcast never bricked, and my snes, PS2, Xbox (original) and N64 are absolute beasts.

The 360 should never have gone into production with its current design. It is utterly flawed. If this was a microwave oven, a television set or a car it would be recalled by the thousands. But they know that once we've invested enough in Xbox games and pointless Xbox points etc that we have little choice but to just go and buy another!

The PS3 Slim was made because it was a better aesthetic design (in my opinion) and all around a sleeker and better machine (ok, minus the backwards compat). The Xbox 360 Slim was designed because the original 360 was a piece of junk.

My 360 broke 3 times in 2 years. The last time it did it was the eve of Street Fighter 4's release. I was so pumped for the game and had it on pre-order. The game arrived the next day, and my 360 had to be sent to Germany for 3 weeks to be fixed (I was in UK). Yes, it's only a console; but real gamers invest not only money in games but also a lot of emotion (i.e. expectation, excitement, rage etc; that's why we game).

That day I decided never to buy another 360 product and I ordered a PS3 slim. I love it.

I admit, the graphics on the 360 were sharper (for the multi-platforms), I'm stil yet to see a more graphically lush console game than Uncharted 2. But I would rather have a machine that is reliable than one whih has a little less anti-aliasing.


No point in owning a Lamborghini which breaks down every 3 months, when the Porsche will last for a decade maintenace free.

360 vs PS3 isn't even an issue.

The 360 is a ticking timebomb and a piece of crap (don't forget I own both machines, so don't flame me. I'm qualified to not like a product I have spent thousands on).
