why? this is a great opportunity for you. a chance to free yourself from the terriblly unstable money sucking product that is the 360. Sell your games & accessories (keep the wired controller, can be used on PCs) and try something different.

So, congrats.

I started putting more money towards my pc since the current gen consoles are so unreliable, barely touch them now. My pc can run the original Crysis on ultra graphics and max Anti aliasing 60+ FPS, 1080p, so I'm happy with that. I'll only be buying exclusive console titles such as Infamous 2, but who wouldn't?

You kinda missed the point there.
Bitching and moaning will do less then putting your money where your mouth is, while yeah in this case still won't do much.

Its not a matter of my principals, but a matter of you having no right to ***** and moan if you aren't going to do anything about it.

And you also have to shell out extra money to get new video cards and such every other month if you want to actually enjoy good games. I've got a decent PC that I game on and I consider this a major downfall to consoles. With my 360 I can just breathe easier knowing that, until they make the next system, I can play whatever fucking game I want without worrying about the frame rate or turning down the resolution.
Over in Australia the difference in price between an Xbox/ps3 game and a PC game is about Aus$30-40.

If your buying a new card every couple of years (you don't need highest graphics and you can go with what I call trailing edge {the things that were yesterdays leading edge}). a graphics card would be about AUS$200-600 deppending on brand and series.

The computer minus screen and keyboard as a whole including shipping is about the same price as an Xbox anyway. So really It to me seems like the better option.

Having no right? You do realize that this is a public forum and I have the RIGHT to say whatever it is I want within the guidelines of the forum rules. I also never claimed that this thread was anything more than a rant. Does it have a point? Yes, I am angry at a company treating me (and presumably others) like shit and I felt like sharing those feelings. Do I have to seek justice or find a way to shit in Bill Gate's wallet? No, and that was never my intent. If you have a problem with the existence of this thread or my rights as a member of this site I would recommend you take it up with a moderator.

So yeah, fuck that. Now I can either shell out 100 bucks for a shitty machine that will die again in a few years or throw down 300 for a Slim. FML.
Or Save your pennies for when the ice-cream man comes around.
Really they have shafted you hard yet instead of thinking about alternatives like a different console or spending your days frolicking in a park, you just want to give them more money.

So why not, Fuck your life, It seems like an appropriate response.

You do know this is the exact reason microsoft and the likes get away with treating everyone like shit, cause you will still give them your money, for shit proven again and again to just fail.
Condescending and unprovoked hostility gets people places on the internet. To be completely honest I could care less about giving Microsoft a booboo by refusing to do business with them because in the long run it doesn't matter at all. I have a bunch of games for the Xbox and I like playing it, so if I have to jump through a few extra hoops in order to do so I may ***** and moan, but in the end I will be happy playing my Xbox. Call me a sheep or a mindless consumer if you want, but I couldn't care less how my business affects a corporate giant like Microsoft. Unless I burn down a factory or buy a factory's worth of Xbox's I'm not making a bit of difference in their revenue.

You could say its about principles. But I have video games to play. So fuck your principles.
If enough people refuse to buy microsofts poorly made consoles, MS can either discontinue the console and move on to something that they can make money on, or go out of business. So refusing to buy another 360 can make a difference. Its incorrect to claim that it "doesn't matter at all." Also what does long run mean? a year? 10 years? 100 years? if you use that reasoning then theres no point in doing anything because its a virtual certainty that "it won't matter in the long run."

The fact remains that...

Advice? if you don't feel like shelling out for a slim, I say get an Elite. I've had mine for a bit over 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it. It's probably a might cheaper than a brand new slim, and of all my friends who have also gotten elites, none of us have had any problems.

That, or ask around town about places you could get it repaired yourself. I say try Radioshack, or some smaller place. Good luck, with what ever you decide to do.

Why is it that Microsoft can't make their console work again? They even knew that the reliability was abysmal when the 360 was in development and they didn't give a crap.
To be fair, the main problem that was causing so many RRODs at the outset was corrected, as far as I know, so new systems shouldn't be failing quite as much.

But yes, their track record is pretty abysmal. I had mine RROD on me, around the 2.5 year mark and they had it replaced within about a week, and it has been going strong for about three years now. Fingers crossed...

Console war in 3...2...1.

Why are people constantly doing that? Whenever anyone posts an absolutely serious thread, about let's say consoles, someone has to comment on the possibility of a potential "console war". Its just stupid. It never happens and implying it could is just drama inducing.

The great thing about PC is that when they break, you can just google the fix, which always work. Just stay off the dodgy website and it won't break at all. and dude, it's just a xbox, your life isn't fucked.
On my old computer, the harddisk melted. I'm pretty sure that wasn't due to a virus or something similar.

Um... Sorry bro?

We have all lost a few good 360s. Let them forever be rembered.

OT-If you are going to buy another one you might as well go for the slim. It will be a better investment in the long run.

Yeah sure, if you don't know anyone else in the world with a computer, or you don't have a second computer at your house, or you don't have a smart phone, or you don't have a cell phone at all, then you're going to have to google it on your broken PC because you've got "Safe mode with networking" as an option. If you're going to try and invalidate my point, don't be stupid about it.

Wow, you must not take very good care of your property. Or it was just shit, either one really, or maybe both.

So my Xbox 360 just got the inevitable RROD. Yeah this happens to people a lot... so why am I making a thread about this? Because I am pretty fucking steamed about how Microsoft treated me when I called about the 3 year warranty.

I bought my first 360 about 4 years ago, which survived roughly two years before the video card died. I sent it in (while it was still under warranty) and they REPLACED the Xbox for free. The support guy explained that they would extend my warranty for the new Xbox INCLUDING the 3 year RROD warranty.

The Xbox they sent was pretty crappy from the start (it made really loud noises and locked up more often than an Xbox should). Well it lasted up until now and when I tried to order a repair online it wouldn't let me select the RROD free repair. As it turns out they never actually renewed the warranty for the REPLACED Xbox, so that essentially this new machine only had about two years of coverage as opposed to three. When I explained this to costumer service they told me I, "had been misinformed."

So yeah, fuck that. Now I can either shell out 100 bucks for a shitty machine that will die again in a few years or throw down 300 for a Slim. FML.
True story:

My partner worked at a chip/circuit-board manufacturing facility and he said that some people would bring in their X-BOXs with the RROD and FIX them by putting them in the board-baking ovens - something about heating the systems up would get them "flowing" again and they would miraculously work after that.

I don't recommend putting your X-BOX in the oven and I can't say that this actually works or not, but I thought it was damned interesting.

As for your problem... I don't really know. I own a PS3 now and I haven't had any problems with it; we never really got another working X-BOX after ours did the RROD thingy.

BTW, that's how you make RROD sound more technical. Put "thingy" after it.

Well then. It is now time for you to BUY A COMPUTER

this has no restrictions. can instal linux. Can play games (and the games are cheeper). Do you homework. And will not be "not supported" when the next console comes out. :)

Good hunting

The extra money you shell out for computer components every few years is nowhere near as expensive as replacing an xbox EVERY year, assuming you're that unlucky.

Also console games are formatted for higher screen resolutions, but are rendered below 720. PC's render the games themselves in whatever res you play on, which is why they run better on an Xbox. So yes, you don't have to worry about turning down the res, because it's already down....way down.
Cut it out will ya, you know every console gamer isn't sitting there jealous of you and your gaming pc, most of us are perfectly happy playing on console

After 3 orginal Xboxes and 1 360 RROD'd on me (well the originals don't have RROD's but shut up) I took the advice the heavens were obviously trying to give me... And got the next one insured

When the next one RROD'd on me i got a free Halo ODST and shiny black 360 which so far, has not seen fit to RROD on me.

Thanks insurance
