Thought I'd dedicate this page to hyping the first game of 2008 I'm really anticipating and first in years where I've actually pre-ordered.

I've been playing Sega Rally since January and finally I've another racer to keep me occupied for 5 months more.

A friend and I played the PC demo of RaceDriver: GRID yesterday and we grilled the 3 tracks for over 3 hours! Not bad for a free demo.

I just love the balance between arcade and simulation. We play in the [greatest ever] inside car view and it just rules. When you jump up and down, crash, etc, the entire interior just shakes around and makes the most believable noises and movement.

The visuals, although the MTV saturised look, seems to really compliment the tracks and urban feel. The 3rd track on the demo inside the city with the smoke and blurring of the heat is one of the most epic courses to a racer I've played yet.

But the controls are really something. Easy to pick up (we're playing on Manual gears) yet learning to be patient when taking over cars, and avoiding spining out and not trying too hard to cut corners is incredibly rewarding.

Also, the damage to the cars are the most detailed and believable in any racer by far. This is helped by the Destruction Derby style damage on the car that effects the actual performance of your vehicle. We've been in hysterics over the look of our cars on some races where we've been just one knock away from blowing up.

And finally the options screens. The music at the start of the game is just perfect, as is the seemingly smooth of the presentation on the menus as a whole.

I'm very saddened by the reviews on Amazon.co.uk for the 360 version and how some have already scorned the PC demo even though the actual game hasn't come out yet on PC. Most appear to have little patience in learning not to just drive around smashing every other car off the track and actually using skill to win.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. If you like racers on the PC, ones that don't take themselves too seriously, but serious enough, check out the demo at gamershell.com now. It's out on the PC at the end of this week. Unfortunatly I've chosen free Amazon postage so I'll have to wait up to 4 working days to get it through the post. That's what you get when you need to cut back on the pennies :(
