Recently I have been playing LOTRO and I am playing as a dward. Now as such I do like to make remarks about the elvish population, and then have some rather frank questions asked back, as to the lack of female dwarves.

Any hoo, on to my question: Is racism okay in this sort of fantasy setting?

I mean on one hand, no particular group is bieng hurt, maybe some elf enthusiast somewhere or a group of pixels. On the other hand does it promote actual racism in real lfe?

What happend to the last of the elvish woodworm? Found dead in a tin deposit
Any offence caused and i'll take this last bit down.

Racism is ok in any game setting. If it fits in a character, it fits in a character.

I'd say insults flung between different races in a mmorpg is about as "racist" as the banter between two football teams. It's definately fairly unseemly, and I'm sure it doesn't contribute anything to society and probably does promote violence. But does it add to the atmosphere of the game? Absolutely.

Got to remember the difference between jokes and words said with actual malice.

Racism is just good clean fun.

We don't notice dwarven women because you can't see their tits behind their beards.

Also, the elves are responsible for all the wars.

Also also, stupid ass hobbits and their government goat cheese.

If you think about it, most fantasy is racism. One race always hates the other for silly, stupid reasons.

But I think fantasy racism (as put across in Terry Pratchett's books brilliantly) isn't any big deal really. Look at the animal kingdom; that's racist, nobody seems to mind.

If it fits the game world it fits the game world. And as long as it stays there it's okay.

RE5 according to the medias was a massive race-hate haha.
It's true though, Chris kept telling me he was on a mission from God to purge the world. Maybe he just meant because they were zombies but I still think there's something wrong with him as he didn't dive into Sheeva's undies the first chance he had.
