One example I have from my own daily life: Some of the immigrant kids complaining about racial discrimination, but still having a medieval outlook on homosexuality. One of two marrocan guys I work with has got this complex. He's bright, and really a nice lad, but he just don't "like" or feel comfortable about homosexuality. He's by far not the worst case I've meet ever, but I still think it's weird that he still regards homosexuality that way.

I have an Indian friend from Mauritius that constantly plays the race card, but as a well meaning joke. He takes the piss from my partly Jewish family and I make the occasional jab at him, too (eg "Where are your Gods now!"). It might be slightly heartening to members of the forum that people can be aware of their differences but don't let them become...too important to them.

Exactly. I don't mean to derail, but imagine if there was a marriage for white people, and a civil union for black people. There would be riots, but if theres a marriage for straight people, and a civil union for gays, nothing.

I think Jesus was actually a Jew...

Anyway, I truly hate all this "equality" bullshit. People are not equal. Some people are fat, some people are stupid, some people are black. It is NOT racist to point this out. It is NOT racist to use this as an insult. Do I discriminate against the intellectually challenged by calling them thick? No! I'm just trying to point out that, perhaps, walking out into the middle of the road without looking was a fucking stupid thing to do. If they also happen to be causing the paving stones to crack as they move I'll call them Fat bastard as well. If they've had my car up on bricks in the brief time I've been stationary, I'll call them a thieving Scouse bastard. If they're black, I'll call them a black bastard. It isn't racist. He'll probably call me a ****** in reply, but that doesn't make him homophobic either - he's just trying to insult me, and sexuality is an easy choice since I lack any other distinguishing features.

If I were to start shooting niggers because they're niggers and niggers should all be shot, then THAT is racist. Racism is based on ACTION, not personal opinions, or even short-term hatred. If "Hatred" WAS based on short-term hatred, it would be against the law to disapprove of a rival sports team.

You're wrong, sorry. Racism isn't just actions, it is opinions/beliefs/ attitudes as well.

And why does an opinion / belief matter? Thought Crimes don't exist. If someone hated Blacks all their lives, but never actually harmed a black person, would that be a bad thing? I don't really like Liverpool very much. In fact I hate going there. I am entitled to hate Liverpool, as whenever I do I find it a nightmare to drive around the town centre. So long as I don't go smashing stuff up, or attacking people, or inciting others to do so, I can hate Liverpool all I want.

But I can't hate Muslims all I want. Or Blacks. That's the problem. It is WRONG to try and tell people they cannot think a certain way. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how bigoted it may seem. What people are NOT entitled to do is act upon those opinions.

The example I gave is where Racism gets stupid. Here's another - two kids in school get into a fight. One's fat. One's black. The black kid calls the fat kid fat. The fat kid calls the black kid black, and is punished for racism, but what he did is no better or worse than what the black child did.

Do you see the problem with Racism now? It's not the racists, it's the people trying "protect" us from Racism.

If you hold racist opinions/attitudes, guess what? You're a racist. If your opinion is that all chinese people smell and eat babies, thats your opinion, and yes, you are entitled to it, but you're still a racist.

And why does that matter?

Watching South Park last night summed it up nicely - the kids are conscripted into a child abuse ring... err... I mean a Choir, and are taken to South America for a save the rainforest thing.

Cartman starts complaining the place stinks, and gets the usual "respect other cultures" rhetoric, to which he replies "I'm not insulting their culture, I'm just saying this place stinks!"

And this is why anti-Racism laws are so damn stupid. I live in a town that was traditionally (and to a degree, still is) a chemical town. My home stinks. There all kinds of jokes about my town, such as you can tell you've arrived because the paint starts peeling off your car. It is nowhere near as bad as it was, but on certain days you can still smell the place. Now, combine that with the fact my house backs on to farmland. What to farmers do when its time to plant crops? They spread shit on the field.

So, you've got shit in the north, and chemicals in the south. Hands up everyone who'd like to stand outside my house on fertilizer day? No-one.

If you came into my town and said the place stinks, that isn't racist. If you did it in Iraq, it is. This is why these kind of laws hurt my head so much... what the hell is wrong with calling it as you see it? Under the system we've got now, any black or muslim can get away with murder (literally, in some cases) by playing the Race Card. That fact alone is enough to inspire hatred.

If you want everyone to be equal, you have to TREAT them like equals, and that means people can call blacks black.

I hate illegal immigrants, unless they didn't have a choice when they came here. I don't mean "life sucked, so I jumped the border" type of "no choice", but "I was 3 years old when my family jumped the border" type of "no choice". My sole reason for that is that they come over and demand equal rights as citizens...when they are not citizens. They want to have all of the benefits of being an American, without any of the drawbacks, like paying taxes. Therefore, in that sense, I am apparently racist. But it's not like I don't have a reason. I also tend to be prejudiced against most Mexicans for a good reason. Don't want to go into it here, though. PM me if you are truly interested.

I dislike Gypsy's (in the UK) for just that reason, they can steal, and never face the consequences. They also never pay taxes or any of that shit, the police won't do anything becuascue
A. It's a Gypsy's heritage to live seperate from soeciety and so any act against them without concrete evidence would be Racsist.
B. The Gypsy's have guns/huge dogs.
C. They realise by the time they do gather a decent case the Gypsy's will have "travelled away".

I'm not saying all Gypsys do this, or that they are all in on it together, but their lack of money and their ability to play the "opressed minority" card makes crime a very tempting offer. Their only a minor irritation though, they never go as far as murder or assault or even burglary.

You're right. The second part of my post is racist, technically, though. Although, is it racism if I have a really good reason to feel that way?
