hello everyone I went to see The Damned Things last night and seeing as we were some of the first people there we got to meet them and they signed our tickets, woo hoo. There singer Keith Buckley is a major influence to me in terms of his songs lyrical content with Everytime I Die

So, what were some times when you guys met someone who's an influence, coool guy etc. you never thought you would meet?

I have shaken Guy Lafleur's hand twice in my life and both times I have been struck in awe by his presence. He's an awesome character and was one of the reasons why I became a Nordiques fan (now Avalanche, hence the Avs).

I met Liam Neeson once. He knows my uncle, you see, so I got to meet him a little while back.

He's the nicest guy ever!

I've also met Peter Molyneux and Steve Albini (my favourite musician)
What's Molyneux like in the flesh? I ask pretty much because he always seems to me to get an unfair rep for the fact his games are never the feature-fest they're hyped to be, and I've always seen him as a decent guy who just gets a bit overexcited about the projects he works on...

Anyway, I haven't really met anyone influencial, although the guy who started The South Bank Show (Melvyn Bragg) is the Chancellor of my university. Though my uncle was a journalist before he died and he travelled the world, and he met plenty of influencial people. He was given a boomerang by some Australian diplomat in Iraq, I think that's the right story anyway, and we have a newspaper cutting where he tells of the time he was sitting in a cafe in the Seventies or Eighties in Iran or somewhere, and a bomb went off just down the road. And he met Ronnie Biggs, the Great Train Robber! He actually met him in Brazil when Biggs was on the run, and had dinner with him and his wife in their house in Rio :D. My uncle was a pretty cool guy, overall...

Did you punch that guy in the gut and tell him to start working on The Movies 2? No? Awww.
OT: Nobody. Most famous people I've seen were the ones I don't think too highly of.

While I was at a programming camp at UCSD, my parents went to Legoland for a day with my younger sister. They someone who looked vaguely familiar to them, but they couldn't quite place him, some of the teenaged park employees were whispering a bit, obviously excited at this person's presence. When I talk to my parents after they camp, they tell me they realized it was Viggo Mortensen...Yes, my parents and younger sister saw Viggo Mortensen at Lego Land, while the major LotR fan of the family was away >.<

I met the lead singer of Alestorm (he lives in Bristol, apparently) at a Testament gig. He signed my ticket.

I still don't know his name.

Cheery, really really cheery.

I met him at the Jameson film festival in Dublin. He was over to have a talk in Trinity college.

He's a very nice guy, I talked to him about Fable III. He said that given that I liked Fable 1 but not 2, Fable III would be something I'd like a lot. I respect him for that, with some people, telling them you liked one thing of theirs but not another can make them just as angry as if you'd told them you hate everything they've ever made.

He's really hyperactive as well. I only talked to him for a few minutes though.

O
I did ask him that actually! He said he didn't have any plans, but he'd take it under consideration.

He probably won't, but still.

Hey! You like the Movies!

I love the Movies! I have loads of films up on Youtube of movies I made with that!
That actually pleases me quite a bit :D. It's always nice to know that someone you respect in an industry, especially one such as the gaming industry, is as nice and personable in real life as you imagine them to be based on the snippets you see and hear from things like press conferences and whatnot. As it were.

To be completely honest though, I would love to actually work for Peter Molyneux. I have ambitions of working in the gaming industry, specifically in level design, and Lionhead is one of the companies on my 'hitlist' to apply for during my final yar at university (so, next year...).

I met Ruben Eliassen once, back when I was in the target audience for his books.

Edit: Oh, and he signed his books, and wrote a secret in one of them :3

I'd love to be able to say that I'd put in a word, but considering I talked to him for about 7 minutes tops, I doubt I'm very high on his list.

Still, it's the thought that counts!

Good luck with that though! Make Black and White 3!
Thanks, I'll try :D. Who knows, maybe in five years time I'll be meeting the Escapist Staff at E3, telling them about the new releases from Lionhead or from Microsoft... ;)

Indeed!

I hope you keep your Escapist account!

That would be a fun conflict of interest.
Heh, I won't be quitting this site until I eventually catch up to yor post count. So I'll be here for a good few years yet...

Anywho, if I was employed in the industry I wouldn't be able to reveal anything on the forums, but it'd be nice to be able to be an 'eye from within' for the people here. And it would be great for marketing for whoever hired me, I guess, having me as a direct link to a major customer base...

I met Herman Li from Dragonforce, but he's a bit of a dick. Or at least, that's the impression I got.

Other than that, I haven't met anyone really famous and cool, though we occasionally see Russell Crowe in town if he's filming nearby. I'd love to meet some of my influences, but apparently Batman's not real.

I can't remember meeting anyone, but a friend of mine got backstage at a Porcupine Tree concert, and when entering an elevator, four ginger dudes entered too. they had a bit of civilised small talk, until they got out. a few moments later the band Anathema got on stage, consisting off.....The four dudes! Fuck, I love that band.
