So, I've recently discovered ragtime and also that I quite enjoy it. Ragtime is piano music that began in the 1890s and was popular until about 1920. Most basically, it?s piano music that emphasizes rhythm as opposed to melody. Now, sadly, it?s largely lost to obscurity. Anyway, have you found something not currently part of the popular consciences that you enjoy?

Here is some ragtime music if you're interested:

I actually had no idea what this style was called until now, so thank you.

And yeah, I love it. It always reminds me of the 40s for some reason.

I think of silent films, especially with the Maple Leaf Rag.

OT: I'm not really into it. It's okay if you want to dress up in frilly dresses and tophats, though.

Same, but I also associate them with the 40s.

random thread is random
You mean that it is random in how I went from talking about ragtime to the topic of the thread?

That transition was a bit rough.

reminds me of the film the sting, probably because this is the type of music they used for the film's soundtrack
Yeah, ragtime received a major rebirth in popularity due to The Sting.

First of all, I must recommend Pine Apple Rag in case you haven't heard it already.

On topic, I hardly ever listen to "popular" music. Ragtime and classical is the stuff!

My little cousin plays some ragtime pieces for her piano recitals.

I really like the stuff, but don't really know where to get started listening to more of it. Thanks for the links!
