Thought I might mention a little campaign going on in the UK, to stop the XFactor getting it's 5th number one Christmas single in a row. This year they plan to have the winner release a MILEY CYRUS cover (yes you heard me right).

In response to this, hundreds of thousands of people are pledging to buy Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name Of" to force it into the Xmas number one spot.

Both fans of the band and people who have never heard of them are taking part in this, it's not so much the song that's important, jus the fact that without a campaign like this, everyone already knows what the Xmas number one will be.

The campaign has already been reported on by Sky News, the BBC etc.

Will you be doing your part?
Do you think that programs like the XFactor contribute anything musically?
Would you perfer to see a return to a CHRISTMAS song being the CHRISTMAS number one?

Advertisement. Not cool.

And who cares what song wins? If you don't like it, don't bother thinking about it.

I took part in the 'RickRoll Christmas' last year, but also the 'Get Jeff Buckley in, not the Godawful XFactor cover.' I seriously consider Alexandra Burke's cover to be one of the worst pieces of music I have ever heard in my life.

As for this year, I'm taking part in 'Get Journey to Number One' 'Get Killing in the Name of to Number One' and 'Let's try and RickRoll THIS Christmas'

I don't give a rat's ass about what song is listed as number one, and which isn't... How tha fuck is that relevant to me? It's not like I'm going to search for music that everybody else likes...

I think this juvenile campaign of your's is redundant.

I mostly ignore them No.1 stuff like that, but it'd be funny to see Killing in the name of, at top spot.

Firstly, I didn't mean to advertise, I just thought it was an awesome idea.
Secondly, take a chill pill.

I'm in just for the hilarity of RATM being a Christmas number one, especially Killing in the Name.

It's not even MY campaign, I just heard about it from my mate.

Why is everyone here so damn uptight today?

i thought (according to metal hammer) that they were doing a cover of dont stop believing by Journey as the winners song thatswhy they they are trying to getJourney to number one with the original. It would be good to see Rage Against the machine more publicity though as they have been pretty under the radar since they got back together

I'm in, Burke's cover last year was crap, and to be honest the look on peoples faces when radio stations start playing RATM at 5 in the afternoon would be worth it.

I try to ignore stuff like who's at number one for Christmas, but it'd be good to see RATM at number one. I got linked to the group on Facebook; I joined, but I don't know whether I'll buy it. I've never bothered with singles before...

I often get personal when it's regarding music, I can't retain myself. I apologize for accusing it of being your campaign, but I still resent the campaign.

According to Wikipedia its the Miley Cyrus song.
I checked a couple of days ago, couldn't bear the thought of them butchering one of my favourite songs. I will buy Journey as well. :D

I understand totally, don't worry about it.

I went to a club last night, they played Killing in the name; it was epic. To see this at number one would be amazing

Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,
Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,
Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,
Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,
Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,
Fuck you I won't do what you tell me,

.************!

Also this may be advertising but sometimes there are things bigger then the Escapist, and an attempt to prevent the continuous butchering of English pop music is one of them
