Rage DLC Arrives Tomorrow

Rage: The Scorchers will add a new weapon, bandit clan, "extended play" and more to id Software's post-apocalyptic shooter.

Yes, it's that Rage we're talking about here, the Bethesda-published FPS that came out more than a year ago and didn't exactly set the world on fire when it was new. Despite its age and lackluster reception, Bethesda is putting out an all-new single-player expansion, and it sounds not insignificant.

The Scorchers will introduce the Scorcher clan, "the Wasteland's most psychotic bandits," whose dastardly plan to destroy what's left of civilization must be stopped! Fortunately, your efforts to bring their shenanigans to a halt will be aided by a brand-new and super-powerful Nailgun that can fire three distinct types of ammo. The expansion also adds six new environments, a new season of Mutant Bash TV to compete in, new mini-games, an "Ultra-Nightmare Mode" for the hardest of the hardcore and an option to continue playing after the game's final fight.

And now, some screens!

Why is this DLC coming out so far behind the game? Perhaps Bethesda is trying to fire interest in Rage now that it's had an opportunity to smooth out the bumps that plagued it at launch; whatever the reason, it's a bit odd but also rather cool to see a publisher stand behind a game like this rather than simply letting it die and be forgotten. Rage: The Scorchers comes out tomorrow (that's December 18) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and will sell for 400 Microsoft points or $4.99.

Isn't it a generally observed trend that DLC sells less the longer it is released after launch?

Either way, I'm not predicting great things here. Personally I was too bored to even finish the main game, let alone extra stuff.

It does sound like good value for money though.

I actually will buy this. Or at least I would, except my friend took my copy of rage and then moved to Wales.

If the DLC comes with a free patch that makes the PC version not take over a minute to fully load the textures after every loading screen, I'll bite.

I really hope that they've been working on a significant patch to launch alongside this DLC. If somehow they fix the texture streaming crap and a couple of other issues, I'll pick this up and finish Rage. I thought the animations were incredible, and the shooting satisfying. I just didn't want to deal with 20 or so GB of textures, half of which I never saw, with the rest being a hodge-podge of varying quality depending on which direction I was facing. A year+ does seem excessive, though.

I was so close to getting 100% (in game, and acheivements) now they're adding more!

But this is really a game I want to see more of, though so I'm not complaining.

I took one look at that first big mutant and all I could think was "ooohhhh shit", I really enjoyed the game (need to finish it one of these days) so I'll probably be getting the DLC. Besides mutant bash TV was great so I'd love to play another season.

I actually bought Rage during the Black Friday sale. It had been on the to-do list for awhile, as it looked like Fallout, and I love Fallout.

The game's not bad once the technical issues are out of the way, but it's reminescent of the glory days of linear FPS. You can't interract with half the environment, even though it looks really good. They might as well have taken out the illusion of open world gameplay, because it's nigh on nonexistant.

For 5 bucks, I can see myself picking this dlc up.

I bought the game, played it, and now I don't think I ever will again. It's not terrible, but I don't feel like paying for a chance to squeeze another couple of hours from it.

Jesus, people still play this?

I remember buying this for about five quid new, about six weeks after release, and found it to be one of the most boring, unoriginal, tedious gaming experiences I've ever had. Don't understand why they would waste time adding a new bandit clan (read: reskins of the current bandits), new weapon..? When wingblades are all you need, and... ugh, no.

I agree with FelixG. Bethesda should have just let this die.

So when do we get the finished version of the game?
Because I wasn't impressed with lackluster failure of a tech demo that was released.

Rage is a great FPS. I don't get why people don't like it.
This DLC certainly is unexpected but it has good timing, as I was planning on playing Rage again on harder difficuilty. I only wish they would have focused their DLC on more Authority and more Endgame or ANYTHING more interesting than yet another bandit clan, of which there seem to be enough already.

Liked the game, solid 7/10 but I can't see myself spending more money on it... I'd like to but just so many other things, really not worth it for me. Does look good though...

Unfortunately it took me more than 30 minutes lol

I bought it for PS3, and immediately was scared when I heard that the PC was having problems with the graphic cards because the graphic cards were somehow incompatible or something. Well first thing I saw on the PS3 was the most absurd lack of texture ever seen in a game, textures would take ages to load, and most of those that were far away wouldn't fully load at all, you just played the game feeling it was incomplete. Sadly, a lot of stuff was very nice, the guns had some sweet impact on the enemy, the setting was nice, those clockwork things in the game's universe. So I kept going, until I had to concede that the horrible story and character conception (I felt more in tune with the protagonist of Doom for crying out loud), not to mention the unpolished gameplay (what the fuck were those races???) weighed too heavily on the game.

I love post-apocalyptic settings, fortunately I have Fallout and Borderlands (which isn't quite post-apocalyptic, but it gives the same feel...)
