So I bought Demon's Souls a long while back, and I have been stuck at the same location for around 3 months, just because every time I play I get to a certain point, die and then turn off my console for safety reasons. Anyone else had experiences with Demon's Souls like this? If so, please share!

I get stuck on the spider boss on world two for a long time so i know how you feel soul farm till you can level up a lot and figure out your best and strongest weapon, its a grind so be prepared.

Uh, the second level in the Tower of Latria area. It took me a few tries, a couple of times I got knocked into a pit, but honestly I just grabbed my souls and kept going.

I've been enjoying Demon's Souls a lot recently. I've played it through using a Magic and a Melee oriented character. It has been one of the most interesting RPG experiences I've had in a very long time.
There are definitely a few spots that I would happily murder whoever was responsible for. The worst that comes to mind for me at least is 4-2, the Shrine of Storms (Was that the name? I completely blanked on it.) Running along the cliffs with the freakin' manta-rays launching spikes at you while fighting three silver skeletons, then three gold skeletons.

A game of perpetual difficulty? I find that hard to believe. I know some end up dumbing down the ai and making them weaker the more you die, but to do in reverse is just asking for no one to complete or play the second when it comes out.

Ah Demon's Souls... I love that game. I'll tell you what though, I'm pretty sure everyone whose completed it has gone through that phase, and half the fun of the game is finding the right balance between leveling up and using one's skill to finish a level. Bosses are tough, for sure, but to me the most frustrating parts were definitely the walks to the bosses. In particular, 4-2 and 5-2 were nightmares for me my first playthrough (especially with pure black world tendency). But I smartened up and used the thieves ring on 4-2 to not be pestered by the manta rays, and took alternate routes in 5-2 to bypass or divide n' conquer the black phantom big goblins.

(Ignore this paragraph if you're turning off your system for ACTUAL safety reasons)
In all honesty though, if you're turning off your system to save your souls, you're missing the point of the game and are losing out on part of the experience since dying in Demon's Souls is about as natural as jumping is in a Mario game. Getting frustrated is part of the game, it forces you think more and makes you a better player (I hope I don't sound preachy here, thats just how the game worked for me).

What part in particular are you stuck at? Perhaps I can give you some advice.

I love, LOVE, Demon's Souls.

Beaten the game multiple times with many different styles of characters. Tell me where you need help and I can give you tips.

(If your level is the issue grind 4-1 skeletons until you beat the level and unlock level 4-2 in which case you should just go grind the reaper for stupid amounts of souls).

The way it works is there are seven levels of "World Tendency". Pure white being +3 and pure black being -3. Every time you die in body form the world tendency goes down one. Every time you kill a black phantom or boss the world tendency goes up 3.

Every lower level has stronger monsters and if you get down low enough (pure black) extra, very strong, monsters get added to level. In addition NPC's become black phantoms and attack you. They also tend to be VERY strong.

The trade off is in pure black mode the game is the hardest but the drop rate for stones used in upgrading weapons is increased. In pure white mode the game is easiest and the drop rate for healing items is increased.

Also there are certain events in the levels that only occur at pure white or pure black. For example "Magic Sword Makoto" is only available if you have pure white world tendency because otherwise it will be placed on a rock out of reach. With pure white its on the ground next to the rock.

Demon's Souls is a game that does not forgive mistakes. That section you just described DEMANDS that you be wearing your Thief's Ring. If you wear that ring, the mantas will not see you or attack you leaving you only to deal with the skeletons.

You have to plan ahead. Then again I don't know how to play Demon's Souls without my theif's ring. I always use it. I can't handle enemies without it.

So you die a few times and the game becomes cock-punchingly frustrating (pure black), but you kill two people and it goes to easy mode (pure white)? This sounds even more like a grind fest before a boss battle than a normal RPG. "Ooops, the Boner Dagon killed me. Time to go out and slay a minion while only dieing once to make it easier."

I have never played it, but by that definition I would rather play SNES water levels for the 20 hours it would take to beat Demon's Souls.

Yes tis the reason why I traded the game in, its too hard for me to enjoy it which defeats the purpose of gaming I am meant to enjoy what I am playing. Not strain myself to attempt to enjoy.

To make the world tendency go up you have to kill black phantoms and/or bosses.

Neither of them respawn. They are also rare. So lets say you beat world 1-1 without dying. There is one black phantom in level 1-1 at pure black tendency.

Anyway you go to level 1-2 (no black phantoms here) and that damn dragon kills you over and over. Before you know it you're at pure black and have NO means of getting the world tendency back up aside from the one phantom in 1-1. You go kill her. Now you're at +/-0. Can you make it to the boss of 1-2 and kill him without getting sent back to pure black?

You can't farm minions to fix your world tendency. There aren't nearly enough of them.

The game was a bit challenging but I never really got stuck at any specific part. The False King in 1-4 was a pretty challenging boss though the first time around. Regardless of how high your defense is whenever he hits you he always takes out a very large chunk of health, and if he catches you in a combo well it's either game over or saying bye bye to a bunch of healing items. He attacks fast and hits hard; he had me on the ropes quite a lot.

A couple of misconceptions:
1. you only lose tendency (game gets harder) if you're in body form, which I should add is not very often. You play a majority of the game in soul form which doesn't affect your tendency if you die. I should add that dying lowers your tendency by 1, so the only way I see people screwing themselves is when they rely on body form too much (using the rare item a lot) only to find themselves in pure black world tendency unable to move on. This may seem frustrating, yes, but think of it as Demon's soul's punishment for relying too much on the extra life body form gives you

2. These "people" you refer to for gaining tendency are actually bosses (which don't respawn), and they only raise tendency by 1 on a scale of 7. Primevil Demons and unique black phantom do raise your tendency by 3, but they also do not respawn and only appear in pure black world tendency.

3. A grind? the world tendency system is completely optional and is in no way needed to complete the game (to get everything yes, but that's impossible on the first playthrough). The game is certainly beatable on pure black world tendency, in fact, many players prefer it on pure black for the challenge.
