Right boys an gals, here's a little newscut from the Netherlands (my home country)

Geert Wilders (PVV)
it's in Dutch, but it's about a populist politician who's proposing, in response to the new government budget for next year, a so called "rag-head-tax" wich means people who wish to wear the so-called "headrag" as a manner of religious expression have to pay a tax of 1000 euros (about $1200).

...*facepalm* Wow...really? Was there seriously nothing else he could think of as being more important? It's things like this that make you fear for the future of politics.

Having said that, politics has often been a heady mix of stupidity and bigotry...

They're not only charging them. They are literally calling their religious clothing "rags". They're called Burkhas.

But that just sounds like a leader of a Dutch version of the BNP.
So DNP I suppose.

Oh dear, is all that I can really think. I still believe that it was wrong for the Home Office to ban him from entering Britain earlier this year though...

hmm that's never gonna go through, and if it did, you'll have every leftist group screaming "immigrant tax!" or "difference tax!" "omg! racist!" etc etc...

Besides what's the point of a tax ? i mean it dosen't cost more to the state because they wear whatever they want.I believe it should be the same rules for everyone (especially if you immigrated, YOU have to adjust, not the country you're emigrating to)Like here, you can't show a crucifix at school anymore, even though it's a "christian nation" but immigrants can wear hijabs, bring their religious knives or whatnot to school (if you're caught in school with a knife and you're white, you KNOW you're in trouble)

Anyways, it should be the same rules for everyone, no bypassing, no exceptions. No tax either, there's no point...

Say this brings a whole new meaning to the phrase:

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

And that's why I hate my country so much. Worst is that so many people support this clown. Get me out of here, fast!

Ok so i guess this is fundamentally wrong and a rather overt form of discrimination...

But the mixing of two cultures with extremely different focuses can be problematic.

Woo for atheism!

This nutjob is not in our government... yet. Though looking at the polls it might come to that... sometimes I really hate my countrymen.

I do wonder about the practical aplications though, how are you going to check this? How often do you have to wear it to have to pay? What if it's not for religious reasons? And of course why don't the asshats with the baseballcaps have to pay?

EDIT:

This isn't about Burkhas. It's about headscarves in general, burkhas are those fullbody coverings.

Nah, that's stupid. Unless they also tax crosses and David's stars and everything else, it'd be unfair. And even if they did tax everything, it'd still be stupid and discriminating against religious folks.

I tend to be more of a libertarian then an anarchist, and a lazy one at that. In other words don't bother me... about anything.

well thanks guys, this at least proves to me there are still some sane people left in the world (even in the Netherlands by the looks of it)

Like assassinator said, ALOT of people support this wanker, and if things go on like this he stands a good chance of becoming our new prime minister.

yep, I really hate this country... any good suggestions for countries to move to?

Ah, Nigel Powers is hilarious

OT: That's really messed up, I'm surprised Holland would do something like that.
