I just bought The Binding of Isaac during the steam holiday sale, I really enjoy the game and it made me notice something. Lately there have been a lot of games that randomly generate the world every time you start a new game, Binding of Isaac is one, but there is also Terraria, Minecraft, Dungeons of Dredmor, the Civilization series, and even Skyrim does a little bit with the never-ending quests. Those are just off the top of my head, so are more developers opting to have random worlds to extend the life of the game or did was it just a coincidence that I've played all these games around the same time?

Coincidence in a few of those. Terraria is based off Minecraft so there is a little coinciding there. Civilization has been doing it since 91 or 92. You also have the original Diablo. (Diablo 2 mostly just scrambled the same pieces.)

I too got Binding of Isaac and just sat down to check it out last night. I beat it with Isaac on my first playthrough, then beat it with Magdalene right after, then died with Cain on level 6. (Such a slap in the face) I love how the game is easy, yet challenging and I am constantly going "Oh, what's that?"
