And people who buy katanas: Why? You can't even use them!
Do you mean "I can't use it because I don't know how" or "I can't use it because it's illegal"?

because here in Texas, everything is basically legal, in terms of weapons
and I definitely can use it properly after wasting time and money on Kendo and iaido lessons
Do you use it? Because I don't play all my vinyls. I will simply download most of them.

Rarest would be a Custom-Handmade Vintage Series SX Fretless bass. As for most expensive? I'd say my PS3 :/

I don't think anything I have is really all that rare, and if it is, not rare in the sense that it's worth much.

I DO have one of the limited edition (either 15000 or 1500 copies, I can't remember right now xP) brand new eyes box sets, because I love Paramore that freakin' much.

The amount of Disney movies I have on VHS will probably be worth a lot at some point in time.

I have a relatively old guitar, but little to no guitar knowledge, but I've been told they don't make them like that anymore.

My dresser is probably the most valuable thing I own (antique), but my futon cost me about $500 and is a damn nice futon (half a K is a lot for someone with no job who has to pay for uni) and I'm fairly certain that if I added up and sold all the books I have for their original price I'd have a hefty amount of cash.

As of today, the most expensive thing I own is my new Caparison Horus, which retails for roughly $4,200 in Norway. It may or may not be more valuable than my most sentimentally precious possession, which would be an acoustic twelve-string guitar which I believe is older than my mother. It used to be the property of my mother's uncle, and was used at the national championship in a kind of musicianship I don't know the name of in English.

Haven't needed to,the other crap training katana's are all I need for practice, but that one is the one I'd use if I was ever in real combat

Will you ever be in real combat? I am sure I have never played some pieces in my collection, and never will.

My laptop, even though it's worth less than $500AUD.

Maybe all my books are worth something.

I rather not ever have to take human life but this is going into tangent arguments, you original quotes asked why we buy them when we CAN'T use them, not when will we use them practically.
The point I'm trying to make is that some of us CAN use them, we just probably never will. In which case they become a rather ornate decoration for our living rooms, and a conversation piece

Oooo, I forgot my 3/4 scale Stig. He just stands in a corner. Also, being made of cardboard he's very low maintenance.

Let's see...

Stained glass window of a sloth that's pretty cool, only one of its kind by what I've found out. Dunno how much it's worth.

Misprinted YuGiOh card from when I was really into that thing. There's nothing printed on what should be the face side of the card- just a black/yellow/cyan/magenta vertical lines, like when a TV signal goes bad/cuts out.

One of the 3500 of both Riceboy Sleeps by Jonsi and Alex, and of Go by Jonsi. Not necessarily "super rare" or "expensive" (cost about $70 or $80 with shipping) but uncommon due to limited number.

A crapton of old Beanie Babies that are in some cases 10 years retired. Not worth a whole lot but I'd never get rid of them. Too much sentimental value.
