hey, hd version of the one good game? fuck yeah!

now I just hope that this new game will finally make the series stop sucking. probably not. I doubt i'll ever get it, unless its given to me as a gift.

because Insomniac finally used up all my goodwill. it took six sequels, but I finally don't care about the new game anymore

I thought for sure that All 4 One was the death rattle of the series. It does me heart good to hear about a new R & C game, but I hear the words "online play" and after All 4 One I can't help but worry. The past games being re-released is good news for me though regardless of where this new game ends up.

Can't have enough Ratchet and Clank! Especially if it's back to the 3rd person style!

The hell? Do the Europeans have something against double-entendres? Almost all of the Ratchet and Clank games have had double-entendre subtitles! "Going Commando" "Up Your Arseenal" (We'll ignore Deadlocked and Tools of Destruction) and the latest one was even going to be called Clock Blockers, but it was too obvious so Sony made them change the name to "A Crack in Time." I'm seriously wondering why the hell the title was changed over there...

Edit: Also, I just got the newsletter-e-mail from Insomniac about an hour after you posted this... you guys must be fast writers or something.
It's quite sad really. The Americans get all the awesome names while us Europeans get the really useless numbered sequels instead.

The US release of Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando was simply called Ratchet and Clank 2 in the UK. Up Your Arsenal was named as a rather boring Ratchet and Clank 3 while Deadlocked was labeled Gladiator.

One can only assume that we're supposed to be offended by all this innuendo over in Europe. I hope the original collection is released with the US names in all territories.

On the one hand I'm psyched at the announcement of R&C returning a bit to it's roots. I hope this means it goes back to being more nonsensical, and not as drama driven as Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time.

On the other hand, if it's a PSN release this means it won't be a full length game. :- (

Classic feel? I played 1 extensively, beat the first future game and pirate downloadable. I also played the demos for commando, all 4 one, crack in time, and 2.

That isn't as much playtime as it could be but please, Someone tell me where I missed the difference between all of these.
All 4 One had a totally different feel to it because of 4 player co-op.

OT: I'm really looking forward to it. I love R&C with all my heart.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ratchet & Clank since their first appearance on the PS2, played through all of their games and have preordered the HD remake.

What I don't really get is why the Lombax has practically no problem with getting various sequels green lit, when fans of Sly Cooper and Jak have to wait ages for their next fix. Doesn't seem fair to me when the three franchises basically are the foundation of incredibly fun plattforming on the PlayStation 2 and 3.

It's not a matter of getting greenlit. It's a matter of their developers deciding to go for it. Insomniac decided to push 2 IPs during that time, with Jak and Sly having their developers moving on. I mean, Lost Frontier was greenlit and many parts of the game were unstable on even paper (ie the focus on aerial dogfights...and removing Jak's goatee). Sony knows that the three franchises make money. Naughty Dog wanted to continue with Jak, but they had no ideas so they decided to keep him on the shelf. Sucker Punch toyed with the ideaa on the earlier days of the PS3, but decided to stick with Infamous (as well as tease their fans through Easter eggs). Sly Cooper was one of the first few big HD collections released, and they trusted it with a relatively unknown team and allowed them to make a full-on sequel coming this fall.

I'm happy to hear that it's Insomniac developing it, I was starting to worry they'd moved on. Looking forward to more news, perhaps at E3?

Egads! You're right. My mistake. It's still a really awful name by comparison though. I mean, I guess it fits the theme of the game but still, what's wrong with Going Commando?
