Alright, well I rented the new Karate Kid movie in Blu-Ray, aye? Well, as I was skipping through the pointless previews, I saw the rating. It said PG (Or PG-13) and one of the reasons, I swear to the gods, was for bullying...

I mean, for fuck sake, will parents force their kids from the theater because there will be bullying in the film? Will seeing some kid get bullied, then beat the hell out of other kids really cause most viewers of adolescent age to go and do the same?

To be honest, seeing that rating made me bust out laughing at 1 in the morning. I laughed for a while, and I'm not even sure why.

Your avi is quite purty.

And I know it's in the news. I see that shitty acting of teen ugly girls saying to "Stomp out bullying! *stomp*"

And I've never had a swirlie, actually, but I have been "bullied" for being an "emo kid" xDD

Silly teenagers.

It is a scary thought for parents, they might have to explain why they ignored the signs and their childs cries for help. So the movie industry has wisely chosen to defend itself from the crappy parents and make sure they cannot be sued.

After all it is always more fun to blame media for your problems than take responsibility.

I don't think people really die too much in PG films anyways, do they?

Soon, we'll probably revolt back to our bigot ways.

"Rated R for races other than white, emo people, and women."

Yup, just like parents with violent children who let their kids play games such as GTA at the ages of six. "Your game makes my child angry! How dare you let children play this game!"

There was a big stink about The Bridge to Terebithia movie and its downer ending.

I don't see the problem really. A PG rating doesn't confer any age restrictions, it's only there to inform parents. G-rated movies in general confuse me because I'm not sure how they manage to get any conflict in.

What was that Antz movie? Because I remember seeing that when really young. And it cursed, said damn, VERY violent lol. And yet it aired all the time on Cartoon Network. Makes me laugh when I see it on TV.

EDIT: In fact, it said "shit" three times in a row, I believe. These dung beetles were eating, and one goes "Hey... this tastes like shit." "Yeah, it does taste like shit." "That's because it is shit."

It was rate PG for language and "menacing action" apparently. So there you have it, any film with any sort of conflict at all gets rated PG, except Finding Nemo for some reason...

The real lesson is that the MPAA is notoriously inconsistent.

Oh, they die alright, only the film makers wuss out on actually showing anything to get a bigger audience. Case in point, Dark Knight.
The Dark Knight was only PG? Honestly?

I don't see why this kind of information shouldn't be made known to the consumer, and I certainly don't see the harm in doing so. Bullying is an issue, and is something many parents are quite concerned about.

Wait... but if it DID say shit (not too sure, since CN censored whatever it said) Wouldn't it be more along the lines of PG-13? Just wondering is all, honest. And I didn't think Cartoon Network played anything suitable for kids over 13. Especially those new stupid shorts in between the shows... "Wow, this 3-D is amazing." "That's because you're in front of the TV." "Ohhhh."

Cartoon Network has died... :(

In "Live Free Or Die Hard" they had to make the gunshots quieter in order to get a PG-13 rating as it gave the movie an "aura of violence." That last sentence is completely true and comes straight from the directors commentary of that film. I was one of the lucky ones who actually received that movie as a gift. However, under that definition of "gift" I suppose a flaming bag of poo could also be considered a gift...

That is sad... apparently the gunshot sounds are what gives off that aura, not the big fights scenes, the shooting of people, or saying shit constantly, even saying fuck on the DVD version.

The way the ratings board describes the reasons for their ratings these days can be pretty rediculous. I knew they had gone crazy when I started to see movies rated PG because of "mild peril".

I think I once saw a rating that included and was attributed to 'tomfoolery' or something equally hilarious.

This seems more of a legality issue, who knows.

What they hell where they thinking? Tuning down a freaking DIE HARD movie because of the violence.. The whole fanbase revolved around that gorgeous R rated hardcore violence.

But that seems to be the pattern with action franchises these days. (AVP and Terminator Salvation for example)
And to make it worse, they shortened his catch phrase... "YIppe KiYay Mother fucker!"

Except since it was PG-13 they could only say fuck once, and they wasted it on one of his daughter's lines. Stupid. And they wanted to attract attention to younger audiences into the movies... using the FOURTH one to do that... yeah, real friggin' smart... -.-

The Dark Knight was PG-13. It was kept bloodless to avoid an R, which I think is a pretty dumb reason for a rating bump. Blood or no blood, the psychopathic clown is still cutting up faces and jamming pencils into eyes.
