I've heard a lot of people saying they love the scenery in Red Dead Redemption, and they should because it's completely gorgeous. The cacti and all of the scrub brush are rendered wonderfully, as well as the red rock formations. I can't even believe the gorgeous sky box they created for it. I swear it's like they have a randomized cloud generator for it, and all of the sunrises and sunsets are fantastic.

The thing is, that's what I see everyday, and I want to say that they did it perfectly. I live in Arizona in the middle of the Sonoran desert, and when I first started wondering around in Cholla Springs, the first thing I thought was just how much it really looks like Arizona, minus some of the wildlife due to modern times and all. I've noticed many plant types that I see everyday on my way to work. The fact that every single sunrise and sunset is gorgeous is exactly like Arizona. Very rarely will you see a sunset that's lame out or blocked out by clouds because it's a rarity for it to be that cloudy.

But the big kicker for me was the rain. You're riding along on your horse and all of a sudden it is pouring and you can't see ten feet in front of you. That is an exact interpretation of the monsoon season here, and I've been in that sort of situation where I'm just driving along and all of a sudden the rain hits that hard. It doesn't trickle in, it just starts, and it ends the same way.

I guess it's kind of silly, but ever since I started playing I just felt like mentioning all of this. Rockstar really put a lot of good work into making the game look and feel just like the Sonoran desert, and it definitely paid off.

Oh, I completely agree. One thing that compelled me about RDR from the beginning was it's vast, gorgeous environment.

Especially when GTA IV's Liberty City was a smoggy, grey hunk of metal - so it was nice to get some expansive landscapes that truly felt alive.

There are very few companies that put as much effort into the detail and nuances of their games as Rockstar.
