Hey, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks of repurchasing old games with the intention of preserving a cherished game from the futility of degradation or loss? Say for example back in the day I had Simon The Sorceror on floppy disk but upgraded to CD at a later date as CDs were more robust.

This brings me to today with the release of Aliens vs Predator and the subsequent re-release of 1999/2000 AvP on Steam. I have an original copy of the 1999 version but felt the need to re-buy it via Steam (as it was only £2.99 if I remember correctly) just in case I lost the disc (as well as better compatibility with XP/Vista/7) in addition to the 'I can re-download this anywhere' ideology.

I realise that some games can be registered to Steam (e.g. I own all of the Half Life games physically and registered them with my Steam account so I could download direct from them rather than dig out my disc) but I'm just wondering what everyone else here's opinion is, are you willing to re-buy games for the direct-download insurance and if not would a drop to say... £1 sway your mind?
