Depends on whether it's worth reading, like if people are basically putting the same thing over and over there's not much point, but if it's lots of different opinions then I'll normally read the first 1-3 pages, then the last one.

I read everything up to and including the post to which I'm replying, or the whole thing if I'm replying to the original poster, so as to not risk looking like more of a tool than is strictly necessary and unavoidable.

Except I skimmed some of the random statements thread.

I read the first few pages, then I skim around, checking people's avatars and stopping if it's one of the people whose opinions I usually share/admire their writing/think are funny. Once a thread breaks 4 pages, unless it's an elaborate list, I stay away.

I read enough to get the general flow of a discussion, but I usually don't read through all the various "replies" and "re-replies".

Depends on the kind of thread. If it's a review, or a news article, I'll read all the posts or at least skim them. If it's just some kind of "I'm bored so let's post a random poll thread" that I'm replying to, I'll read every other post or just the last two before my own.

Why would you want to check out the posts of those whose opinions you usually share when it's the diametrically opposed opinions which make you think and should therefore be most interesting and illustrative?
