Sitting at work, listening to the radio in the office, I just finished listening to 'Hey There Delilah', by Plain White T's. Listening to the lyrics, it seems like a pretty creepy song, something my brother always mentioned but that I never really focused on until now. It's meant to be a love song, except the writer admits he wrote it about a real girl. A girl called Delilah who had already rejected him numerous times, and who already had a boyfriend, and who hated him for writing the song about her afterwards. He even used her real name in the song. So, to me, the whole thing just reeks of rejected heartbroken stalker unable to accept the fact that a girl isn't interested in him and uses his songs as wish fuilfillment.

This isn't the only case of things becoming creepy when you look deeper at them, though. So, ITT, what examples can the community come up with of things that just become more strange or creepy when you start to look past the surface?

Well, yeah, but it's a catchy tune, so all is forgiven.

Now, cue the original creepy ass song when you read into it!

In light of recent events involving Ian Watkins, I find the video to A Town Called Hypocrisy to be absolutely terrifying.

I really, really hope none of the kids he used in this video were a victim of his :/

Peter Pan has some surprisingly dark origins, though the original novel and play themselves had quite a few undertones of death and such which largely vanished from the Disney animated version and it's derivatives which people tend to think of nowadays. The whole theme of Peter never growing up and being without a mother relates to the writer JM Barrie's own dysfunctional childhood, where his older brother was killed in an accident and his mother was emotionally distant.

That and the character Peter was also partly based on the son of one of Barrie's close friends, who he supposedly had an obsession with and ended up fostering along with the kid's brothers after their parents died. There have been persistent rumours that Barrie may have been a bit too interested in the boys if you get my drift, but we'll most likely never know as the only person who knew the truth took it to his grave. The 'real' Peter grew up to be a depressed adult and eventually threw himself under a train so... cheerful stuff right?

I had two of their albums which I've since sold to CEX, for 10p and 16p respectively. Which is a bit of a shame as the rest of the band had no idea what Watkins was up to, and made pretty good music. I can only hope that the rest of the vband carry on, after a name change, without Watkins and do their best to get rid of the pretty disgusting legacy he's left behind...

If You Can't Ride Two Horses At Once You Should Get Out Of The Circus by Asking Alexandria.

You could take the lyrics many ways. My favorite is that a guy loves a woman but she doesn't love them back then forces her to commit suicide with him by burning themselves.

Eminem's song 'Kim'... upon deeper inspection that one is just.... nah, just kidding, it's messed up and creepy from the get go :p The Beatles 'I've just seen a face' always worried me too... I mean, even if you believe in love at first sight, which I don't, he's awfully obsessed awfully fast in it.

Blurred Lines, but you don't exactly have to look particularly deep to see the creepiness oozing off that one.

If you're bringing up the Beatles then I'd have to throw this in. It's just so cheery and happy and upbeat, then you listen to the lyrics...
