I'm starting to run out of books I'd like to read so I was hoping you all could help. I really don't have a current favorite author but I used to read everything Dennis L. McKiernan wrote, but his writing style seemed to get really old school fantasy and it threw me off. I'm still a big fan of Timothy Zahn, in and out of Star Wars, but again, it's just not what I'm looking for right now. I should probably start with what I have read:

Most of the Wheel of Time series before I got bored.

Most of Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Riders series, again, before I got bored, but I have re-read a couple books.

A ton of the Star Wars series, mostly Zahn and Kevin J. Anderson but even the New Jedi Order is boring me anymore, which I'm only four or five books into.

I've read some of the Vampire Masquerade series, but again, got bored. (No I won't read Twilight because I can't handle the movies and no I won't read True Blood, I like the TV series too much to ruin it.)

Some of Dean R. Koontz' books. I really liked Midnight, but most of his stuff is too light for me.

One of my favorite series, the Winter of the World, by Scott Michael Rohan. I was thinking about picking up his more recent works but I'm kinda off fantasy for now.

My recent favorites have been horror, I guess, is the best genre to throw them in. Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey, an excellent book, I've already re-read it. I'm thinking about getting Kill the Dead, the next in the series, but I'd rather wait on it. Other than that I really like The Strain series by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. I've read The Fall, the second book, and am currently re-reading The Strain. Hogan really doesn't have any more books that I'm interested in and while Kadrey does, I'd like to look into something else right now.

So there you go. Right now, as long as it's on the darker side, I'll read it... if it's fiction. Sorry I'm not a big fan of real life drama. Everyone has enough of that and the fake stuff is a lot more fun. Any suggestions?

The Ender's Game series, along with the Shadow series by Orson Scott Card.
Tom Clancy has some pretty decent stuff, hmm..

World War Z and the Zombie Survival guide by Max Brooks. Read the zombie survival guide first.

The Hunger Games series
The Audition, it's finally translated from Japanese
Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas
The Dead Zone by Stephen King, it's a pretty good book

That's all I can think of without getting too far out there. I'm a fairly extensive reader, so it's hard for me to recommend books because I do realize not a whole lot of people like the same books I do.

I hear the God Delusion and The Greatest Show on Earth by Richard Dawkings are good reads.
