That a shame...but, I suppose I can see why they want to cut it...

Aren't Black Sabbath and KISS metal bands? Also, can't believe they released already 5 Guitar Heroes, each really not that different from the last.

Actually I like this idea where you play alongside the good old time artists, as opposed to trying to be one. What rock band lover hasn't dreamt of being on stage pulling a guitar duet with Brian May? Of course I would be nervous beyond all belief, borking the whole performance while trying not to. This way there isn't so much shame.

Well if they can do this then they can bring back Clive Winston.
Guitar Hero has been dead to me since his absence in the 3rd one.

Wow.

People still care about Guitar Hero? After Activision fired the original developers (because bobby Kotick is an asshole) who then started up the rival Rock Band... who cares about GH?!?

Since all this comes back to Cobain and Courtney Love, I have a question (as not to res old topics from 09 and Jan of 2010), but did Activision pay royalties to Daniel Johnston for Curt appearing in his "Hi, How are you?" shirt?

OT: I don't care what the avatar in the game looks like, the only way I'll even consider getting this game is if they hold true to their word and they make it with good, guitar driven rock and not their usual "Hey, let's put in Lady Gaga, she's popular" way of doing things. It ceased to be GUITAR hero back around the third installment and became more Pop Hero.

Uh, no, that's not what happened at all. Activision bought the original publisher Red Octane, gaining the rights to the Guitar Hero brand, while developer Harmonix was bought by MTV, and went on to make Rock Band.

As interesting as a "back to basics" theme sounds, when applied to the Guitar Hero or Rock Band moniker, I just lose all interest anyway. If they release Johnny B. Goode or Oh, Pretty Woman as DLC, then I might consider dusting off the plastic guitar.

Also, was it Guitar Hero or Rock Band that were considering making a replica guitar for gaming purposes, with, like, strings and all.

Uh huh... rEEEally.

So Harmonix happened to leave Red Octane JUST as it was acquired by Activision? I bet Bobby said it was a coincidence to his stockholders, just like he was "forced" to fire West and Zampella.

The point is Kotick is a TERRIBLE businessman, the list of studios he has run into the ground is as long as my... well, it's very long. I have no idea why he still commands any position of authority, maybe it's because he is a loud publicist and takes credit for other people's achievements (the TALENT made COD4 good and sell well). I think his antics are fundamentally unsustainable, too much milking and exploiting of franchises it may make them easier to market now, more money in the bank, but it's quick money and he's sold the family silver: the reputation of the Call of Duty name.

Activision seems to think the name is the most valuable thing, as if people won't know or care if there is new management. Like they bought the Guitar Hero name and plastered on some other celebrity faces but didn't give a damn that the talent had left the building.

He seems to be ignorant of how popular spiritual sequels are in Gaming, unlike films or books it's very common for the talent to more to a completely new IP yet feel just like a sequel and have all the trappings of a sequel.

will not features famous playable characters. That's not to say that real celebrity musicians won't be appearing in the game at all, but Activision has no plans to hand the reins over the players.
I have nothing but respect for the reporters on The Escapist, but don't forget to proofread, it makes it harder for the site to be seen as a legitimate source of news when there are basic grammar mistakes.

Lol, want to see a trick? I am a psychic, and I can predict the future with a little wordplay.

Just replace Guitar Hero with Infinity Ward, and Rock Band with Respawn, and BAM! A flawless psychic reading of the future.

Well that follows considering that several of those real stars (or there surviving relatives) are sueing Activision and generally kicking up stinkover which songs they play.

Still, Rock Band, Infinity Ward, I can'help thinking that Activision's days as big dog are numbered. Or specifically, they're numbered right up to the day when Blizzard looks at it's situation and decides Activision no longer bring any benefits to the table.

Hark! Has Activision gotten some of their brains back finally?

I probably still won't buy GH6, but hey, at least it's taking a step back to the right direction. (I'm fully expecting to get something like this [yes, I know they don't have any rights to The Beatles, and I eternally gratful for that because if they did we'd be stuck w/ this]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fry-oxfDM8I&playnext_from=TL&videos=0BBjH8wIQz0 )
