I'm not taking it as an insult, rather I think you're getting offended for reasons I don't really follow. In my opinion people jump on the blame-the-US bandwagon too easily, and I pointed out that as Canada also calls it "Where's Waldo?" that his comment isn't technically accurate. My point was that the original name of the Character is Wally, in the same way that the first story in the Harry Potter series is Philosopher's Stone, not Sorcerer's.bushwhacker2k said:In my opinion people jump on the blame-the-US bandwagon too easily, and I pointed out that as Canada also calls it "Where's Waldo?" that his comment isn't technically accurate.
Why do you feel you need to be so defensive? It was a local news channel so its not like they're slagging the city. Its called hyperbole....well no....its called the truth. You actually used the word insult, so of course i'm going to point it out.bushwhacker2k said:I'm not taking it as an insult, rather I think you're getting offended for reasons I don't really follow. I said you seem offended because you're putting a lot of text into trying to prove me 'wrong' or something. Canada used "Where's Waldo?" as well, so I don't know why you immediately invalidated that statement, my point the whole time was that people shouldn't jump on the US-hate bandwagon, but he said he was kidding anyways. It's all good IMO, but feel free to go on if you simply MUST prove me wrong.dogstile said:The entire point of my comment was that you seem to have taken it as an insult from a comment made in jest. Dunno how you made the connection I was offended, so there we go
And it's an american story calling it Waldo, not Canadian. Are you really surprised he used the US as an example? It would have looked weird if he had said Canada in relation to a US story.
Deep enough for you?
I agree there, I didn't mean to blow my statement out of proportion, I was just trying to make a point that the US seems to get flamed really easily for things that may or may not even be the fault of a US citizen. No idea why they'd decide to change names and titles like that.Adzma said:My point was that the original name of the Character is Wally, in the same way that the first story in the Harry Potter series is Philosopher's Stone, not Sorcerer's.bushwhacker2k said:In my opinion people jump on the blame-the-US bandwagon too easily, and I pointed out that as Canada also calls it "Where's Waldo?" that his comment isn't technically accurate.
I'm not trying to blame the US for anything. My comment was meant to be in jest more than anything else. My point still stands though, I don't see why it was necessary to change it from Wally to Waldo.
You don't seem to know the difference between trying to prove you wrong and trying find out why you thought it was flaming or insulting or hating or whatever.bushwhacker2k said:I said you seem offended because you're putting a lot of text into trying to prove me 'wrong' or something. I am being somewhat defensive, I don't like leaving loose ends (or whatever the term is) because I make a statement and someone takes it personally (or whatever, not trying to label you).dogstile said:You don't seem to know the difference between trying to prove you wrong and trying find out why you thought it was flaming or insulting or hating or whatever.bushwhacker2k said:I said you seem offended because you're putting a lot of text into trying to prove me 'wrong' or something. I didn't really take offense to the statement itself, but more the fact that people so easily label US as the 'country that messes everything up' and while I won't argue things do get messed up, it's silly to just use us as the "oh, it's their fault again... *rolls eyes*" group. I DO take offense to that. As I stated in a different comment, I didn't mean for my one statement to get blown out of proportion, I understand what he was saying. I hope we can let this go, I really never meant for it to be an argument.
I'm not necessarily being defensive, I'm debunking a stereotype. It's really quite beautiful in the PNW. And the crap about it raining all the time here is hyperbole. With the exception of November, December, and January, Atlanta, Georgia has much more rain per month than Seattle. Seriously, go look it up.AmbitiousWorm said:Sounds like a really cool thing to do. I'm from Vancouver BC area so I know exactly what you mean. Although its puking out right now. No, the two big problems with Seattle is that it's cloudy most of the time, and that the days get REALLY short up here during the winter, both of which contribute heavily to Seasonal Affective Disorder.
But man, I would not trade the summers here for anything: from about late April to October, you average right around 72° for the high temperature, and it's just beautiful. Coming here from Georgia (where you'd get weeks-long heat waves of 90-100° temps combined with <80% humidity) was a revelation.
