I have become something. An extremely shallow gamer. I have extreme hesitation to buy any game without multyplayer. I want to get assasins creed 2 but their doesn't seem to be replay value. Batman just won serious awards at spike this year but I don't want to spend the money on 6 hours. The dlc for ac2 sounds tempting but it reminds me of my second problem. Difficulty. A big problem with ac1 was difficulty. Way too easy. Is the second harder? I want games like darksiders but I can't bring myself to put the money. The sabateur is suppsedly fantastic but again, difficulty is too low aparently. So... Good, recent single player games?

Get Mass Effect 1.

Tons of replay value (From this Gamers perspective)

I..uh...Well shit, there hasn't been any good Singleplayer games in a while...**** =[

You're dead on though about AC, it is FAR too easy.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii has a fantastic single-player component. Then there's Boy and His Blob (GET IT). Also Rabbids Go Home (It's not a minigame collection! It was made by the Beyond Good and Evil Team!).

Apart from DA : O, who told you that Arkham Asylum was six hours?

I'm a complete Bat-nerd so I relished reading every note and puzzle, so that had to add something on, but seriously, Arkham Asylum is like 20 Hours+, and there's the replay, Challenge Rooms and Puzzles to keep you going.

And I've played AC2 and I noticed no particular difficulty, and the game was a tad easy, but it's still a great SP experience.

Try Dragon Age Origins?
Many times over this.
Borrowed it from a friend who doesn't enjoy it and I can see myself asking him to name a price for it. Why buy it for £40 when I could probably get it for £30 if he's willing to sell.

Also try Borderlands as it is a good fun game, but it may get a bit repetitive.

I get that you think that its too easy but if you watched all of spike, AC2 won best action adventure and Arkham only won best studio. So other than difficulty level you can't fall back on the awards. Even though its easy, Assasin's Creed 2 is still really fun. Way more than the first.

i am a total bioware fanboy so take this for what its worth I have played dragon age
for 140 hours combined between my two characters and i am still getting new stories
out of it. It sounds like you are not a big rpg fan though, just throwing this
title to you for having the most bang for your buck

Screw your recent thing! Homeworld! its the only RTS that I have ever played the single player campaign through all the way.

If you REALLY want recent my first impressions of the Saboteur is so far the only game with nazis that actually make me hate nazis and want to actively kill them in incresingly interesting ways. I hated the story at first but its getting better. Cliched and predicitible maybe but its interesting.

MGS is another series that has a fun story. Regardless of what anyone says I promise you plenty of people have sat up late at night arguing over bits and pieces of it.

GTA 4 the ballad of gay tony is ten times better then the actual story because I actually gave 2 damns about the characters in it.

Hmmmm I am out of ideas. Super mario brothers had a great story. Princes gets kidnapped and you gotta save her. Cant beat classics.

Sex, the adventures of penis and vagina. No, no now im just making stuff up.

Twilight the video game? YOU KNOW ITS GONNA HAPPEN! (if it hasnt already I half live under a rock)

Mighty morphin power rangers the musical, the video game interpritation.

Now im kinda just listing things I want to happen.

If you dont want to sit through all the cutscenes in MGS4 you could play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, that is pretty much MGS4 for impatient people.

Well im done good day.

I found Prototype to be a nice little time-waster for a single player experience. It also serves as the "hey look at what I can do" item at parties. If nothing else, it will entertain you for a good 8 hours of just messing around. Apart from that though, it's pretty much just average.

That's not being "shallow", that just being "normal".

Coming from someone who has played it...you're right. Worth a rent though.

Even so, it's one of the best ways to spend six hours.

What problem?

Difficulty.
Oh.

Here's a scary thought...it's a shit load easier.

Don't know much about that game. Gonna rent it.

Mixed reviews are mixed. i'd be playing now...if Blockbuster fucking had it in stock. And no. they're not "out of copies".

I geuss this counts as an edit but I want more answers so here is another post. Borderlands is has multyplayer so it doesn't count. My pc sucks so I would only get dragon age if it's good on consoles and I don't know if it is. I have mass effect, infamous and bioshock. I played dead space and hated it so not that. I don't mean a good singleplayer, I mean singleplayer only.

Ah. Well, Dragon Age: Origins, in the 6 hours I've played it today, has impressed me with the story and voice acting. Combats a bit shallow, IMO but everything else makes up for that. That was on a 360, by the way.

Outside of that, I can't actually think of a recent game with only single player.
You could try AC2 but I haven't played it yet so I'm not sure if your difficulty problem has changed or not.

Well Borderlands is still fun even without multiplay. I had plenty of fun, its a completely different feel. If you want purely exclusive singplayer games go for something from Bethsoft. Most new games are going to have multiplay involved, DA:O is probably the only game in extremely recent memory that has exclusive single player. Again also The Saboteur, it is pretty much every sandbox game that has been recently made all rolled into one.

Godfather is another one. Red faction Guerilla. It all really depends on how recent your saying here. Also Dead Space annoyed the piss out of me too. On that subject go back in time and play System Shock 2. That is pretty much Dead Space and Bioshock with worse graphics.

If you want RTS. Supreme Commander, uhh CnC whatever number is the most recent. These arent brand spankin new but they arent old either. How about uhh World in Conflict.

For a hard game maybe that ninja gaiden thing (I never played it however). I mean if you want super recent as in the last month, no there is no real extremely hard games. You can have a good experiance with it even if it is not tremendously hard and to me the Saboteur is hard. Its not brutal and hair pulling difficult.

If you want extremely hard maybe Stalker? If you want cheeky and relatively simple try World of Goo or maybe Plants vs Zombies. Again it all really comes down to how recent your talking and what you want. Also it really comes to what you are gonna take out of the game.

I can speak mostly praise for the saboteur so far. The only reason I keep coming back to it is because it is the most recent game I can think of that I thoroughly enjoyed.
