Not as retarded as you think it is, dude. It actually wasn't a country until 1917, and then it stopped being a country again in 1939.

Not strictly true, it's been around in various incarnations for centuries, it's just that it was broken up in the 18th century and not recreated until 1918.

Slavery would like to say hi. That vision sure as hell didn't benefit everyone, they didn't set aside their differences, and I would hardly have called it grand when a large portion of the population was treated like dirt because of their skin colour. If america were to go to a third world country, kill all the inhabitants and make a country there, would you think that's cool?

I can accept the negative along with the positive. Slavery existed prior to the inception of the US, and still exists today (we just don't hear about it very often). While some of them did believe that all slavery should be abolished, a civil war over the ideal on top of an existing war for independence would have a been a little too much at one time (so we waited a few years). And technically speaking, the US was created by going to a new world, massacring the local populace and making a country out of it. I'm aware of US history, and regardless of the methods we used, it's still an impressive feat.

What about the little thing known as the war of independence? If australia wanted to break off from england, we wouldn't go to war with them. I don't think having a war counts as compromise.
And anyway, I'd prefer discussion between politicians rather then a full blown war.

That might work a little different considering Australia used to be the dumping ground for England. But if you really think the greatest Empire in the world (at the time), would simply let a profitable colony walk away over tea between two politicians, you have very little understanding of actual political dynamics.

I think you don't remember them how they really were. The founding fathers had slaves, were racist, misogynistic. George washington used his fame and money to get sex. They are not the saints that everyone remembers.

Never said they were. Benjamin Franklin was a bit of a playboy in his day too. A few probably beat their wives. I only have to look at congress today to realize what a bunch of morons most politicians are. You might choose to view them as people for all their faults, while I choose to focus on their accomplishments. In the same way, Clinton may have let a fat chick who wasn't his wife gobble his cock, but that doesn't detract from the fact he did some pretty decent things for this nation while in office. You don't have to be an amazing person to perform amazing deeds.

I once asked my Christian friend what his position on homosexual marriage was. He quickly replied that he was against any kind of same-gender relationships. When asked why, he simply told me that he thinks it's immoral. Then, after a few seconds, he "corrected" himself and added that women should be excused from this rule. After blinking away my baffled expression, I asked him whether he was basing his position on his religious ideology, or his personal disgust towards gay men. He answered with a series of stutters, and completely irrelevant, cliche arguments for the existence of god.

In any case I don't really think its stupid to get that wrong. Poland has an incredibly complicated history due to it being a political punching bag for any leader looking to expand his domain.

You are dead fucking wrong, most of the countries in europe have strict gun control laws and a much lower percentage of crime involving weapons. I don't care if you think people have the right to shoot back, they should have that right but in the end they'll just end up shooting the wrong people or committing crimes themselves.
