Except Fast and Furious is undisputedly shite and has been for a while, while the Modern Warfare series is actually pretty decent (Black Ops didn't have a Modern Warfare tag on it and wasn't... well, modern warfare), especially considering it's (first and foremost) a multiplayer game and therefore open to reviewing more as a sport than a piece of art, focusing on updating the game, rather than doing something new. Really, it's no different than an MMO in that respect and I don't think anyone here complained about the release of Cataclysm, yes, it's more of the same, but that's what expected of the genre.Loki Cain said:

Call of Duty is the most milked first person shooter fanchise in recent years. Activision releasing a new one every year limits the life span of each game. They never release any free content packs but rather force you to pay $15 for 5 maps.
As long as they have dedicated servers in this version of Modern Warfare, the lack of them ruined the previous installment (especially for pc)

I'm excited for it because it's one of the few FPS games which offers good local multiplayer, especially since they added bots in BlOps. I only hopped on the CoD bandwagon at MW2 and played the shit out of Spec Ops and played a good bit of three-way FFA locally. Besides, it has good multiplayer when you're in the mood for something a little more fast-paced the Battlefield or Section 8. What can I say? I'm a sucker for anything that offers 4-player local MP
Sorry, the level design and pacing of Black Ops was ridiculously bad compared to Modern Warfare 2, and the level design, pacing, and all around script quality of MW2 was shit compared to World at War and Modern Warfare 1.KafkaOffTheBeach said:

...I still replay CoD4. The multiplayer was amazing, yes, but it was the story and singleplayer that made it more than a fun experiment in switching combat eras. The series has been stagnating - Call of Duty 3 is actually the prime example of this, I say - but it was able to save itself before because it was smart with how it handled its elements.
I get the impression nowadays that there really IS no work put into it, which is less a stagnation of the individual elements themselves, but how those elements are put together. I'm so hoping MW3 bucks the trend - they've had two years on it to refine the formula - but since Activision is probably of the supposed mindset that quality won't even matter to the eventual sales outcome, Infinity Ward probably won't be given a leeway to trim or mold anything to make it more substantial.
But, to your first comment - it hasn't been "the same". It's lacked polish, and if that's truly not enough to differentiate titles, then I don't know what is. Lack of fun, then.

EDIT: This isn't specifically aimed at you OP, but I pretty much entirely agree with this video on people who moan about CoD.

I'm perfectly fine with them making it as long as they actually put some effort into the damn game. You know effort that results in
- a coherent story
- well written character
- no more goddamn cliffhangers
- actual challenges in the single player, no more of this mass spawn and chuck grenades
- actually balancing the multiplayer
- put actual rewards to the multiplayer, rather then just this current trend of grinding for nothing.
Do that and I'll be happy and less likely to go into a murderous rage.
