im thinking WHAT THE HELL YOUR PARENTS LET YOU PLAY THESE GAMES. I mean really I think I need to knock some sense into them

What is your view on this and have you met any kids who really shouldnt be playing certain games like these
I dunno, I know this 9 year old islandic fellow who plays one heck of a MW2.
We never spams, rage or trolls, the only way to tell that he is younger is by his voice... Or if you ask him :p

Besides... Me and most of mah friends played violent games at a very young age, we are a very VERY non-violent bunch.

It honestly kind of pisses me off how overprotective my parents are, and I'm against your view. I think if their parents let 'em play the games, then it's their decision. Actually, if and when I have kids, I'm going to let them do kind of whatever. Do your parents have a lot of restrictions on games, music, etc?
When you actually have a child your views will change drastically. I used to think the way you do when I was a young lad. You would seriously let your 8-9 year old play a game like Saints Row 2 where nudity and F-bombs are constant and nonstop?
F-bomb? You mean FUCK? :/
Whats wrong with that now? Its just a word after all. And there isent ANY nudity in Saints Row 2, even if you remove all of your clothes, the "naughty bit" gets blurred out.

Unless you call wearing a bikini, being nude :p

I always find this pretty weird because I've been playing violent video games since I was little (I'm now big, but still young) and I consider myself to be a pretty well rounded individual, but then I meet utter bastards who talk about nothing more than CoD online, but, as I said on another thread, maybe it's just a culmination of different factors, and if the parent doesn't care enough to check the age rating then maybe they don't care enough about the kid.

When I was 9, I saw my uncle gutting a deer. A few years later, I watched him gutting a moose, and he pulled out the bullet he used and gave it to me.

My parent's would let me play Mercenaries at that age because is was too violent, and the only game I could play with any blood in it was Age of Mythology.

Even at this age, my mom said she might not let me buy Team Fortress 2 for Mac because it's too bloody, even though I got the game for Xbox 360 over a year ago and have been blown to pieces dozens of times.

The point of my long-winded post is, parents have the right to determine when their kids start playing violent games. Sometimes people, parents or not, are much too conservative in judging when a kid is capable of playing violent games and separating fantasy from reality.

Parents should let kids play violent games with moderation IF they trust that their kids won't be negatively affected by it.

The kid mentioned in by the OP probably is a bit worrying. If all of his favourite games are extremely violent then it doesn't sound like he's playing them in moderation at all, the parents are just blindly buying any game that has enough violence to suit him.

I don't care what parents let their kids play. It's when they give them a headset and let them curse at people I go "Where are your parents?".

Children aren't as stupid as people think. They know they're playing a game. They know the difference between real life and a game.

There's more violence on cable TV than there is in any game these days.

Yeah, when people say there's a violent video game and it's a danger against the children they blame the DEVELOPERS! Now, WHO'S THE IGNORANT FUCKBAG who came up with that? Oh yeeeeeeeah! Don't blame the parents AT ALL!

I think the parents need to seriously check their eyes before buying a game that CLEARLY states that it is not suitable for their child.

Look at the M rated games we played when young then look at the M rated games released these days. They're so dissimilar that you really can't compare the two experiences. Doom isn't equal to AvP and we shouldn't pretend that they're equally graphic, we have no idea what the effect is because we've never experienced these games when young.
I tend to think this, but in the opposite direction. Doom was roughly equal in violence to most modern M rated games, but games like Rise of the Triad and the second and third Mortal Kombat games were far and away more violent than almost anything on the market today. Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure almost everyone on this board played at least one of the games just mentioned as kids. Any maladjusted serial killers here? I thought not.

OT: maturity is not a number, despite what the ratings systems might lead you to believe. 9 years old may be a bit young, but I'm sure most kids can handle most M rated games by the age of 10 or 12. In the end, it's up to the parents on how much they want to shelter their kids.

Modern Warfare isn't exactly all that bad for kids...

Granted it is a bit irresponsible of parents to let their kids play the games that are known to be gory or violent.

But then again it is the kids responsibility to know what they see in the games is not something they should do in reality

Best thing for parents to do is to look into the games their kids say they want instead of just hearing the title and blindly buying.

I don't see what is wrong with kids playing games intended for a younger audience. A problem now may be that kids games have become ridiculously easy. I think of the games I used to play as a kid, nothing particularly violent until I got to about 14. It's like you gotta play violent games or your not cool or something. You barely ever see kids playing puzzle games anymore either, everyone at my primary school couldn't get enough of games like Columns or Tetris, now such things are considered by the same age group to be "boring".

I don't wanna come of like some old fogey but I do think kids these days are having fewer and fewer restrictions put on them by parents and people in general. I really don't think this is a good thing.
