To be totally honest everything that has featured Alien Vs. Predator except for the very first run of comics has pretty much been epic fail.
No offense, they just can't get me excited about something that people have been trying to do for this many years without success. Hey, maybe they will make the game someone should have cooked up a decade ago and it will be a blockbuster, in which case I will probably pick it up. However I'm not going to feed the hype machine for this one.
Personally they are wasting energy on a franchise they probably should have invested in setting up an original property.
I think you may have missed 1999's Alien vs Predator [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_versus_Predator_%28video_game%29] which received many comparisons to Half-Life for its brilliance, innovation and importance to gaming. Allowing the player to play 3 full and expansive campaigns as either the Marines, Predator or as a Xenomorph. Each with unique gameplay mechanics, sets and plots that made it feel like 3 separate, yet interwoven games.
As well as its sequel in 2001, Alien vs Predator 2 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_versus_Predator_2] by Monolith Productions, and the Primal Hunt Expansion by Third Law, which quickly became a favorite to fans and critics alike [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/aliensvspredator2?q=aliens%20vs%20predator], as well as boasting an excellent competitive VS mode.
While I will agree with you that much of the AVP franchise has been trash... the 2 AVP Games from Rebellion and Monolith were excellent and I am very much looking forward to see Rebellion return to the helm of the games.
If you missed out on these two amazing titles on their release then you have my deepest sympathies, but good news... Rebellion is making a third... and that's why we are all excited.
