There's StarDust by Neil Gaiman, It was made into a movie nut they differ in tone and the events don't exactly match up so I don't know if that would make it ok. My copy hits around 350 pages and it's a small paper back. You could ramble on about its themes of growing up, death and being true to your self. It's also a fucking awesome book.
