I own an XBOX 360, and I've really been trying for a really good RPG, but have not found anything to amazing, so could you guys list some good RPG's and discuss reasons why you liked them?

Also, I've been considering getting Lost Odyssey, but I wanted to get some opinions on it before I purchsed. So please if you've played Lost Odyssey (or any good RPG) I would love to hear the suggestions!

*edit* I am kind of a hit and miss kind o person when it comes to games like this. I really dislike the Fallout and Fable series as well as Sacred and Mass Effect. I love Oblivion and games like Final Fantasy 7 and 8.

I'll warn you do not get anything turn-based like Lost Odyssey unless you're a fan of Japanese games or Final Fantasy. The only good RPG's for the 360 I'm aware of are Oblivion and Mass Effect 2. If you have a half-decent PC you should get Oblivion for PC instead, it has mods to enhance the game (example: much better player models, populated cities and streets, better combat, etc.). I personally disliked Mass Effect 2 but a lot of people say it's a great game and I can see why they think that, so I would check that out too.

On the Xbox you've got Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Oblivion, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and a few scattered JRPGs. Lost Odyssey is a good bet. I would suggest sticking to JRPGs in general on the console. A lot of games by Bioware, Bethesda, and Obsidian are primarily intended for the PC and have large modding communities to back them up and clean up their long list of bugs. They're playable, but should really only be considered if you don't have a PC to play them on. Although, I've heard good things about Alpha Protocol by Obsidian on the 360.

If you have access to Xbox Live, consider Jade Empire. It's from the old Xbox, but it's available for download last I checked.

I, aw... 360. Sorry, mate, I can't help you with that one.

But if you have a dusty PS2 laying around, DragonQuestVIII. Brilliant. Oh, there is some grinding in large amounts, but the ambiance and feel of the game is incredible and addictive.

Also, the DS and psp are loaded with rpgs right now. It's where all jrpgs went anyway, especially the ds. You can't walk into a game store without tripping on a few of them, never mind the shelves full.

I would not play Alpha Protocol. The protagonist is an ass and the controls kinda suck. I love Dragon Age but its for people who like managing a lot of equipment. Fallout games are good, I know everyone says to play them on the PC, but I liked them on the 360. I probably just don't know what I'm missing. Mass Effect and its sequel are really good if you like sci fi and put a big importance on story.

How old is your PC? Is it at least as powerful as a netbook? Because GOG have Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, and Planescape Torment. I play them on my netbook. Oh and Arcanum. 360? I wouldn't know, but those there are four of the greatest RPGs ever made, and they are just like a table top game, as it should be.

I can vouch for Tales of Vesperia. Also, Infinite Undiscovery is a good one, as well. Both use real-time combat, though Tales fights are 'arena' style encounters, while Infinite Undiscovery has free-roaming combat in the environment.

I'm replaying Lost Odyssey right now (because I could only get as far as Disc 2 the first time), but it's a really good game as far as traditional JRPGs go. The Thousand Years of Dreams sequences are really well written and the game stays close to its roots while changing up a bit to make it more original. The only annoying features about it are the random battles, and the turn based battles(although the ring system adds a QTE twist) if you really can't stand them.

I also personally liked Final Fantasy XIII(although it's even less of an RPG than Fable), but it's a very polarizing game and it's plagued by bad design choices. The story is half-assed at the end, but the characters develop nicely and the battle system can be very enjoyable. Definitely try before you buy.

Depends on what you want.

If it's JRPG, I can't help you since I don't like them.

If you want story, anything from BioWare.

Exploration, Oblivion.

Loot grind/Co-op, Sacred 2. It got average reviews, and the story is weak at best. However, it's surprisingly well made, rather complex and one of the best Co-op games on the 360. Best of all (IMO) is the co-op is local (same system). The only catch is that in order to trade items, both players need an XBL account. Doesn't have to be gold though, and since silver is free...
I do have some complaints about it (like the fact that it is rather complex and neither the game nor the manual explain very much) but they're minor. A good game for what it costs these days.

Final fantasy 13 might be a good place to start since you like final fantasy games. I havn't played it personally, but why not stick with what you like?

Dragon Age. I love it to death. However, whether you'll like it or not probably depends on why you disliked Mass Effect. I think a lot is streamlined out of it compared to Mass Effect, what with travel and mining and vehicle sections being practically nonexistent. It's not as sprawling and sandboxy as Oblivion, but there's plenty of choices and the plot is very well-written and interesting with fabulous characterization.
