My AVG Free trial expires today, but i'm not entirely sure i want full AVG when my track record with them has led me to reformat my hard drive 6 times in my 16 years of life.

So escapist, i ask of thee what anti virus software i should purchase, or to keep going with AVG. ^^

Your call.

Generally, from my experience, I've used McAfee for my anti-virus.
It's solid but if you do a lot of gaming, it tends to be a hassle anytime your game updates. It blocks Impulse and Steam every time they do an update, so I have to re-allow them.
Also, watch out for the weekly scans, they will kill any comp. It's like two hours where you have to keep your comp on but not use it.
There's an number if there are any issues or if your comp gets virus filled despite protection, they'll try to help you the best they can. It also has a few useful maintenance features like defrag easily accessible for the less-computer savvy individuals (like my parents)

I've heard some good things about Eset anti-virus but...the keyword in that sentence is "heard". So I'm not sure if it's actually better or a grass is always greener on the other side mentality.

My school computer has Symantec Endpoint on it, but since I got that through my college I doubt it's free normally.

Avast! is pretty good and it's free so you might want to give that a try...

DO NOT TOUCH MACAFEE!!!!!!!!!!!! i can not stress this enough, its has a piss weak virus database and a high rate of false positives.

avast! and avira antivir are two of the best on the market, and both are free. for paid av programs kaspersky is really the only one i recommend. STAY AWAY FROM MACAFEE AND ANYTHING BY SYMANTEC!!!

I use Avast! myself, it's a brilliant free anti-virus, I use it on the laptop and I used it on my old desktop, never had a virus infect either of them, when one did pop up it ALWAYS caught it out before any damage could be done.

I'd honestly recommend Avast! to anyone.

Super Anti Spyware is great for removing things but it does not come with a firewall. Plus It is free.

Tbh I had alot of trouble with avast. I had just reformatted. Installed avast then had to reformat again cause id gotten another virus that avast couldnt detect.

Ive been using Norton 360 since then and it works really well for me. I dont even notice its there most of the time and it does its own thing such as background checks and such.
