I've been playing a ton of dark souls. Essentially, dark souls has been almost all I've played for the last year or more. And, as awesome as that is, I need a break.

I'm looking for something unusual. Maybe something with a cool art style, like Okami, Journey, or child of light. Maybe something unique, like shadow of the Collosus, or Ico. Maybe an awesome indie game, like hyper light drifter or Undertale. Maybe an old gem that may have flown under the radar. Basically, you can reccomend anything, as long as it's not a big AAA release. Preferably something on PSN, or at least Steam. Also, feel free to gush over your personal favorite games.

Unsual? How does a butt monster sound?
Cool Art style? Hell yeah.
Puzzle game like Shadow or Ico (I made that one up but I'm using it)? X+4=?
On PSN? Well....Playstation 3 for sure.
Made by Atlus? See butt monster above, of course it's Atlus.

A puzzle platformer visual novel where you play as a guy who has to choose between two women, Catherine and Katherine and continually has nightmares involving things from his real life (and butt monster!)?

You can thank me later citizen, I'm just doing my job as the best Escapist user ever.

That... sounds wonderful, actually. I overlooked this before, but I may need to fix that. It looks bright, colorful, and perky, so it should be perfect.

Sunless Sea. It's the 1880s and thirty years before then, London was stolen. It now resides a kilometer underground, on the edge of an underground sea, the Unterzee. Life goes on and people make a living in their own strange way down in the Neath, with your character being the captain of a ship of zailors. Yes it's zailors and zee instead of sailors and sea

On your journeys you'll find rats who war with guinea pigs, the nobility from Hell in exile, a nation where there are no laws including the laws of reality, iceburgs that move under their own power, a colony of the mostly dead, a land where time is screwbally, a cove of towering stalagmites, a prison guarded by giant toads, and an underwater court held by drown men. The interesting thing about all of this is that it's only half explained. The game treats you like a person who lives in this world and thus would already know the majority of this stuff. It's fun to piece things together as you explore the corners of the Zee.

Oh be careful though. Campaigns can take a dozen hours or two and there can be permadeath if you're feeling bold. Though your next character can inherit from the dead one, especially if you raised a kid and encouraged them to go out to Zee. Plus there are some items that give permanent major stat boosts that carry over from campaign to campaign.

If you play, remember this. The wiki is hard to navigate, but it is your friend.

So set sail. Find strange new location. Lose your mind. Eat your crew. Die. Start all over again.

Have fun.

Deadly Premonition. It's... very weird. It gets surprisingly good once you muscle through the incredibly odd first... hour or so. And I think since it's on PSN... at least for the PS3 since there's a PS3-specific Director's Cut.

Also this is the main character. How can you not love his smile.

Sacrifice is pretty unique, but it's an RTS in third person. Basically, the campaign consists of you appeasing one of 5 Gods after each mission, and it seems no matter who you choose, the others will be become disappointed or even become aggressive towards the player.

The game play is mainly using souls to summon minions and constructing more mana wells so you can continue casting stronger spells, but each mission has 2 to 3 objectives I think, which can alter the story entirely. Or maybe not all, it's been awhile since I played that too.

I've also been watching Dex and The Solus Project which seem very different to if you're interested.

If you're okay with reading, I'll go ahead and recommend Choice of Robots and Sabres of Infinity/Guns of Infinity. All three are choose your own adventure games on Steam, and offer a decent enough amount of entertainment time and replayability.
Certainly makes a change from Dark Souls.
Then there's also Golf With Friends on Steam. Nice little crazy golf game with a whole bunch of changeable settings, for up to eight players. I like setting it to random ball shapes per hole and playing with a friend, though cones are monsters to play golf with. Cylinders aren't much better.

I don't know how unique it is, but I would recommend Shadowrunner: Hong Kong if you don't mind reading loooads of txt. It's an turn-based RPG

Gunpoint is another game. Its super fun 2D stealth game.

You said PSN and Unique... oh boy... *Shoves my favorites down your throat*

I would highly recommend Legend of Mana, it's a very beautiful and colorful RPG that is extremely accessible but easy to lose hours to. The only downside to it is it's not very difficult at all. There's tons of awesome things to indulge in, reading up on the lore, making weapons and armor, crafting golems to aid you, finding eggs and raising them as pets, growing fruit in an orchard, making magical instruments to aid in battle, unlocking new special techniques and abilities, exploring each unique and interesting location, fighting tons of different types of monsters, and participating in lots of fun quests. It's really my biggest guilty pleasure of all PS1 era games and despite having little in the way of challenge (especially for a Dark Souls vet) I find it very relaxing and enjoyable.

I will be the guy and suggest NOT play the game, but watch the "movie" version...
The gameplay is generic, it have bad controls, the enemies are unispiring.
If I had to give it a honest score, it will be a 6/10. Just ok.
If you really need to play, I suggest you to wait for a HEAVY Discount.

Oreshika (PS Vita) - a RPG in which you breed generations of heroes to take down the evil that cursed your family line. It looks like an extra colourful Okami game.

Is LISA unique enough?

Nihilistic, depressing, yet oddly charming. I'm surprised I haven't seen as much fawning over it as I have Undertale. Can get it on Steam pretty cheap.

I second Sunless Sea, Transistor and Bastion with that.

If I could make you play something - This War of Mine.

Some others would be Thomas was Alone, FTL, Rouge Legacy and Risk of Rain

For something totally different SpaceChem, where you program chemical to react

OOOUUUF! Lot of games I can suggest, but I can suggest you this series:

Danganronpa Series

To be simple as possible is Combine Battle Royale with Ace Attonery: A group of students are trapped somewhere and their host MonoKuma is trying with different kind of motives to make them kill each other.
If indeed someone dies, the other Students must debate to vote who is the killer is. If they are right then they are safe. If they ar wrong, the killer survive and the other will die instead.

A fair warning: DON'T LOOK in Google Search!!!! Lot of spoiler which can ruin the game!!!!
Here are the first game for the PC if you like:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/413410/

I will be honest, even if you look the cover of the second game, it is a spoiler for a part of the game, so just buy and play the first game, then play the other.

You should play OFF by Mortis Ghost. It's free to download, and it's one of the strangest, most unique games you will ever play.

They didn't say "something with great gameplay and controls", which, to me, aren't any more clunky and generic than, what, the Evil Within? It reminds me of Resident Evil 4 with less annoying side characters. And there's like eight million side quests and it's just weeeeird from its music choices to the strange character interactions. So I mean, I disagree that they should wait 'til it's virtually free because it's a game. Not an app. It's better than some of the stuff they shovel out that's REALLY bad.

ALSO I SECOND THIS. I'm still bitter that Undertale is getting the "oh it's so unique-looking with 8-bit graphics and a really good soundtrack" and I was like "Yeah but... OFF did that and it's four years older."

So I'm glad someone else suggested that so I could wholeheartedly agree and shred on Undertale again

Let's see...

DEFCON is a really cool, minimalistic RTS in which you fight a global thermonuclear war. It's really haunting. Real easy to play mechanics-wise, but surprisingly deep strategy-wise. It's basically about losing the least, because yay mutually assured destruction.

Papers, Please you've probably already heard of but if you haven't; it's a Soviet bureaucracy 'simulator'. It sounds more dull than it is.

Rock Of Ages. One of those Atlus "what the fuck?" games that they're so fond of making and publishing. It's part tower defense, part...bowling? I guess? I don't know. But you roll your way around various art periodes in history, it has a very Terry Gilliam-animations vibe. This one really needs the trailer:

Thomas Was Alone is real cool too if you ask me. A pretty simple puzzle-platformer, but what makes it is the writing and narration. Never before did I have such feelings for rectangles and squares.

Reus is a really chill god-game in which you control giants that shape a world and guide its inhabitants. It's slow paced and very relaxed.

Grow Home is also a really relaxed, laid back game. You're a cute little robot who has to climb giant plants and catalogue flora and fauna on the planet he got dropped on. No combat, no tension, just exploring.

Honestly I could go on for ages. Most of the games I play aren't AAA because I'm filthy hipster trash.

Pony Island... It's a game about a pony on an island... *twitch*
CALENDULA... Where trying to play the game is the least of your problems...
Out There Somewhere... If Portal was an episode of a 2D space adventure/platformer...
Lethal League... If Pong was a fighting game...
Rollers of the Realm... It's a pinball-based RPG...

Other than that, Retro City Rampage DX is exactly what you think it is and then some...
