Hi, I've been looking for some new music to listen to and was wondering if anyone would like to reccomend one of their favorite bands or albums. I'd really appreciate it. I'm quite into metal and classic rock but all sugestions are welcome. Thanks :)

Anyway, one of those I'd recommend is Skindred. Love them.

Now, some other bands I listen to that I'd recommend are Diablo Swing Orchestra (avant-garde metal, pretty epic, they have a lot of interesting instruments in usage), Clutch (a bit slower, groovy stoner rock, with awesome lyrics that use word play and are generally very clever), Fear Factory (I've only listened to Mechanize, but they're pretty hardcore), Maximum the Hormone (I love this band because their songs off the album Buikikaesu are so awesome. This album has those songs that I dance to on the streets, the ones that I tap to against every wall when I walk outside, those that somehow...make me feel awesomer than I already am, pretty cheery melodies, too), Jonathan Coulton (well, I like how different his songs are, and their content. This is folk rock, though, so as far as rock and metal go, it's pretty "soft"), Alestorm ("pirate metal", it's awesome. They use one of those keyboard guitar thingies to make the sound of an accordion, so it sounds pirate-y, and the music overall is awesome, and the songs' content is epic) and Hail the Villain (a Canadian somethingsomething band, to be honest, I don't know much about them, and there's not much to say, but I just like them).

I extremely recommend all these artists, especially Jonsi. His music gives me hope for all mankind.

I saw Jonsi this summer. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say I don't think I've seen 5 people on stage make such immediately enjoyable music. It's easily in my top 10 live bands ever (Sigur Ros is also in there).

If you are really into music listen to it all. Start with what you're comfortable with, then branch out so you don't grow to hate certain things (I feel like a hypocrite saying this. I hate a lot of modern music, but when I think about it, indie rock and things like that can be very similar to what I'm used to.)

I think the only way I ever ended up listening to classical music on purpose was my transition to a little art and prog rock, then (in addition to playing in concert band at high school) I began to listen to little with which I was familiar. From there I moved on. If it wasn't for a little experimentation, I wouldn't have spent all that money on Grainger pieces.

I would recommend the Brian Setzer Orchestra, or at least the song "Trouble Train" by that group. It's swing and stuff, but the guitar solo is awesome. That and "The Jazz Police" by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. That guitar solo is also to die for.

One of the greatest bands ever.

EDIT: OH WAIT. You're into metal and classic rock. Oh well. Listen to this still. It's awesome.

David Bowie I guess.
