Hi there.

Recently I have had issues with steam telling me that it cant sync with the steam cloud, and thus might lose saves and settings.

I've search the steam database but found no answers, so I was curious if anyone else experienced this and if its something to worry about or not. Even though I get the warning message, saves and settings are ok. This happens with both skyrim and human revolution, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with a single game.

Yeah, I have had that issue a couple of times but it fixed itself. I think it was the Steam servers. I also still have it with Heroes 6 but that's not the Steam sync but rather Ubisoft's (I think).

At any rate, you wouldn't have any problem if you keep playing on the same PC, you only wouldn't be able to access the same saves from other PCs that have Steam and your it's your account logged in. That's what the error message means - Steam "syncs" the save data - it uploads it to the Steam servers and when you go somewhere else you automatically get it, so you can easily play from different PCs.

I am almost entirely convinced that you can manually copy the saves from one machine to another, if you really want to. Well unless, a game keeps the saves in a really obscure way or doesn't expose them to anything but Steam. However, the chances of that are really really slim. I can't even think of anythink that might do it at the moment. Skyrim/DE:HR certainly wouldn't be problematic in that regard.

If you don't need cloud saves for anything, you can make the messages go away by right clicking on the game in your library, go to properties, and uncheck enable cloud synchronization under the updates tab. Then, you won't ever have to worry about cloud save error messages ever again.
