Hey, I just finished playing Reckoning Kingdom of Amalur and the down-loadable content. I really enjoyed it. I thought the story and game play were both really well crafted and it's may be my favorite game I have played this year.

Having said that, the random loot system was extremely annoying and visually I thought the characters looked bad as well as the armor and some of the landscape. Also, I felt like the character creation system was lacking as it only had like four or five faces to choose from.

So what do you guys think? Did you like the game?

I stopped playing after a while. Got to about the seventh area.

It's not bad, at least not by the low standards of games, but it's so utterly non-engaging that I have no desire to continue.

Story was crap. The evil lord Gobflad is doing evil overlord stuff. You're the protagonist Chosen One. Go wreck his shit. Is this seriously all games are capable of?

I thought the setting had a bit of potential. I loved the idea of the Fae living their lives according to repeated stories. It was a cool take on immorality. But the presentation was so utterly lacklustre that it just fell flat.

Combat was okay, but way too repetitive and too easy.

I liked the RPG elements.

Overall, it's turned out to be my first disappointment of 2012.

I kind of felt like the main story was a little weak at first as well, but it evolves as the game goes on and I felt in the end it was pretty good. I thought some of the guild story lines were fun and interesting too. Still, I agree it had some boring parts that were less than engaging.

I wouldn't give it a 5/5. I think it's a solid game and I love that they actually put some depth in the rpg parts instead of being watered down. That said the game could have used some improvements.

The combat was great, but god the camera is TERRIBLE. It zooms in and out constantly. it gets really disorienting and it never has a reason to zoom in. I can barely see anything if it zooms in because it focuses on my characters ass. It should zoom out and stay that way in combat.

The world is interesting, but very static. Nothing ever seems to change and it gives me that MMO feel which shouldn't be present in a singleplayer rpg.

Not much variety in item appearance either. Tons of items but a lot of them look exactly the same as the next one, it really doesn't feel good to get tons of loot when it all ends up looking the same.

Music isn't anything amazing, pretty standard fantasy themes. Not much to say about it, not bad, not that good.

Overall I'd give the game a 3.5/5. Its no Skyrim, but it was worth the 60$ in the end.

You have some really good points, I hadn't thought about the seemingly static state of the environment. The camera was pretty terrible, but I can overlook that. The loot is what bothered me the most, as you said there is little variety in item appearance, and since the merchants have little worth buying (besides repair kits) all the gold you collect is kind of worthless. Also, I have a problem with games telling you that you need a certain skill level to put on certain clothing. I would be okay with the item being less beneficial like say for a warrior wearing mage clothing, but saying I can't figure out how to put the clothing on is just stupid. The only thing I disagree with that you said was that Skyrim was a better game, but then that's just a matter of opinion.
