So my PS3 displays all cinematics as either blurry or pixelated and jumbled, I have a HD TV with cheap £2 HDMI and I was wondering if any escapists could recomend me a good quality (not necesarily expensive) HDMI lead, one that has served them well and is reliable

As far as I've heard, expensive leads are one of the most bullshit articles on the market, and no better than their cheap counterparts.

Personally, I would just go to my local electronics store and grab the cheapest one I could find.

1.8M long, £1.34 + free shipping, 4.5/5 stars after more than 600 reviews. [http://www.amazon.co.uk/1-8M-HDMI-Cable-Gold-Connectors/dp/B0017RW94A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1298653544&sr=8-1]

A HDMI cable should cost less than a Big Mac. Any more and you're allowing yourself to be ripped off.

HDMI transfers the data digitally, so as long as you don't need a long cable (10 feet or more) then almost anything will work. Check your connections first and if your cable really is shot don't spend more than £15.
well its not my TV because i've tried it on a few, and I haven't heard anything about the ps3 doing this, the worst is oblivion, when you wait at the menu to long and that cinematic comes up its so pixelly its unbelievable

It's almost certainly not your cable, but the one I linked above is easily cheap enough if you want to grab one just to test it out. More likely to be a different problem though. Maybe check that the PS3 is outputting video in the correct resolution? Try the same cable/PS3 with another TV?

Comet tried to sell me an HDMI cable for £80, with the option of an inferior version for £50 when I bought my TV...

It's nonsense, you needn't spend more than £5. Amazon sell their own brand of cables that are reasonably priced, give 'em a look.

Mate, a HD cable is a HD cable, there is absolutely no difference in picture/audio quality from a cable that cost a quid or £1847594375943.

Seriously xD

So get the cheapest one you can find(Y)
Or this one!

At the short lengths most people use the only question is whether or not the cable works, buying a gold plated superconductive HDMI cable for 1000 dollars/euros/pounds is not going to net you any better quality signal than the five dollar special at your local discounter. Over long distances you may want to pay more attention to quality and spend more but very few people need or use cables that long.

If it is doing it on multiple TVs then you need to borrow a known good cable to check the PS3 on different TVs. To me it sounds like either a settings issue or failing hardware on the PS3. Has your PS3 been jostled around at all recently? Is its firmware up to date? Have you done anything to the software?

That is such a ripoff. I wouldn't spend that much money on an HDMI cable even if I were using government purchasing values.

Basically this. A friend of mine bought a ?50 one for his PS3. I got a ?5 one and I can't see the difference. I call BS on that gold-plated crap.

I recently upgraded my hard drive but other than that I haven't changed a thing

They're all exactly the same.

I'd check your PS3 settings before you waste money on another cable. And if it is the cable, its because its a dud, not because its cheap.

Truth. Paying more than a few dollars is just silly. I personally bought several for $0.01 on Amazon and they work perfectly. They're everywhere.
