Ok, so I have just been payed £30 by a very good friend for helping out with his paper round, and it is the perfect opportunity to buy myself a decent gaming mouse, some proper headphones and/or a microphone.

My mouse just broke - it was a simple £8 job, so I am not too bothered. However I can't play L4D2 without one, and my dad is getting a little annoyed with me stealing the main computer's mouse for hours at a time. So, I am in need.

So, can the good people of Escapist please recommend as decent a mouse as I can get for under £30?

I can sort the headphones another time if the mouse brings me to exactly £30, so don't worry about hitting my budget. The mouse is most important right now.

So far, I have looked at the Microsoft intellimouse explorer (recommended by PC Gamer for their Rig), the Logitech G9 (too expensive on play.com -- where I am currently looking), and the steel series ikari (also recommended by PC gamer), which I don't like the look of.

So I implore you, the good people, to please help me out with my troubles.

Any recommendations are apreciated =D

My recommendation? Don't bother. Just buy a bog-standard laser mouse with a scroll-wheel.

Unless you're going to use all the extra buttons a general gaming mouse provides, you will very rarely notice the difference between the expensive gaming mouse and the regular mouse.

Ok let me re-phrase then:

A mouse you would recommend for me to use for gaming that is quite comfortable and will not break easily. Also, at little extra cost, extra features would be kool.

I have a sturdy mouse atm. It's the Deathadder 3500DPI version, bought it for 70? (that includes shipping). Might be out of your budget so take a look at the standard 3G 1600DPI version, which I had before this one. That mouse lasted a long time (4 years? maybe more.) even though it was one with a factory fault.

I've seen the 3G Deathadder for around 30? which translates to about 40$ but there ought to be an internet store which can sell cheaper. Otherwise try any Logitech mouses.. they're not that good, but hey, don't expect much for 30 bucks.

I like the bog-standard Tesco Technika mouse you can get for a few quid.

But then again, I'm not a very fussy person! XD

Best mention here I am in Pounds and pence. British currency lol.

I just looked up the "Razer Deathadder Re-Spawn / 3.5G Infrared Gaming Mouse" on play.com and it is above my budget.

There is also the "Razer Abyssus Infrared Gaming Mouse" for exactly my budget. It looks cool, has alright specs (I have only just really begun to look at mouse specs, so I am a noob), and is, obviously, reasonably priced.

Here is the page for it:

What do people think?

The desktop computer here has a mouse which I believe to be this one [http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=068].
A true gem, I miss using it now I use a laptop for everything. Had it for a year or two-three. Anything similar should do the trick.

A 30 EURO logitech mouse lies beneath my tree now to replace this awfully tiny and battery-devouring mouse I use with my laptop, can't judge it yet.

Yeap, I've got that one as well, and it's indeed fantastic. I looked for a reasonably priced gaming mouse, with not too many bells and whistles but, very important, a wire. So I ended up with the Logitech MX518, and it's absolutely brilliant compared to that old standard crappy little mouse I had.

The Microsoft laser mouse 5000 in the link looks promising, and is much cheaper than the razer.

I have drawn up a list of 3 so far then:

The Microsoft laser mouse 5000 -- http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/1135307/Microsoft-Wireless-Laser-Mouse-5000/Product.html

The Razer Abyssus gaming mouse -- http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/12699723/Razer-Abyssus-Infrared-Gaming-Mouse/Product.html

The Microsoft wired intellimouse explorer 3.0 -- http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=087
(have found inside my budget, but the page is retarded.)

So, a mouse-off?

Personally I'd recommend the Deathadder, completely biased due to owning one but it's showing no signs of wearing out and the build quality is topnotch. But most mice by Razer / Logitech will be of good quality.

The Razer Abyssus is probably your best bet. I have a Razer Krait, which is the same price, but specialized for different things. Had it for about a year and it's always functioned flawlessly. Might also be worth checking out.

Personally I wouldn't buy a Microsoft mouse, and that's simply because all Microsoft mice I've ever used (about four) have broken on me. I usually find the best thing to do is to check out hardware review sites and buyer feedback, any poll you ask on somewhere like the Escapist is going to be skewed from the start, because as a general rule people are biased towards the brand that they own. Myself included.

Lol thanks the for advice, but I think I will go for the Razer Abyssus anyway. I love the look of it, and comparing things like DPI it vastly outmatches the other two options I boiled down to.

Thanks much people for the help!

I've got a Deathadder, and it's definately the most comfortable mouse I've had, but it's got a few programing problems. It's probably just mine, and it's mostly avoidable, but I hear that Razer makes some bad-quality mice.

This actually looks quite good even though I haven't heard anything about it.
But just don't cross the line yet, look up some user reviews etc.
And for the price? This is very reasonable for a 3.5G sensor, it has good acceleration tracking (up to 15G's, for those low sensitivity 180 degree mouse sweeps).

So yeah, this could be your solution to the problem.

I'm thinking about getting one of the ambidextrous mice that Razer makes, specifically the Lachesis. How is the build quality for Razer mice in general? Does anyone have the Lachesis?
