I have a computer that came with a embedded Nvidid Geforce 9100, and I was loking to add some more graphical power on top of that.

Can anyone recommend a card that fits a PCI Express x16 graphics card that can work with a 300 watt power supply

Two things, friend:

1. How much are thinking of spending?

2. You need a better power supply. Seriously.

I use an MSI N460 GTX, when I have it. I broke the fan while building my PC, used the part for a while, then RMA'd it. It should be back before the birth of my firstborn.

The card is pretty solid, though.
With it I run Morrowind at max.
While that's not too impressive, it looks pretty good.

Right now I'm using an old Nvidia GEforce 5200, salvaged from an old computer.
Even with the proper drivers, I can't run games, since it's barely compatible with the motherboard.

With a 300w power supply, your really going to struggle to get the punch of a good gaming graphics card. Upgrade to a 500w + power supply then go with whatever nvidia or ati card you can afford.

I just got Fallout NV and CAN run it on minimum settings but it still jumps graphically and I can tell me computer is straining under the load I'm hoping more graphical power fixes that.

My ATI Radeon HD 5870 is serving me well, just some driver issues is my only concern.

It cost an arm and a leg and needs a power supply at least double what you already have. But doesn't break a sweat running Crysis, Crysis 2 though... if you can sacrifice your first born you could cross-fire 2 ATI Radeon HD 5970s and run it at a 32x18 resolution without any problems...

I was hoping to avoid upgrading the power supply the computers not even 4 months old, but I might have to

sigh.....

UPGRADE YOUR POWER SUPPLY! I'm sorry. that is awful, :D

Other than that though, it comes down to what your trying to play. Look at the specs of what you want to play and buy a card that is a little higher than recommended.

Oh ho-ho!
I see you are trying to impress me with the weakness of your video card!

Well, son, I can't even run Half-Life or even Daggerfall on this computer, so there.

300W?! Dude, get at least 600 if you want a current gen graphics card to work without eventually frying.

Once you've done that, I suggest the Radeon HD 5770 or 6850, or a GTX 250 from Nvidia.

I was hoping to avoid that, is it possible to add a less demanding video card on top pf the one I already have, its embedded so could they work tandem???

What is the make and model number of your computer?

300 watts is pretty weak for a new computer.

A decent card for around $80 is the Radeaon 5670 and uses about 60 watts.

Give me a price point and I'll see what I can find, maybe at least a decent enough card that will work with that PSU or a card + a new supply, honestly they're not that expensive. I got a 750w monster for 60 bucks.

edit: 6 gigs of RAM but they can't spring for a decent video card? That's idiotic >.>

...no. Your adding more devices or more powerful devices, either way they require more electricity. Not to mention that most other standard Pc components will require(or at least suggest) power supplies of at least 500W. Now, honestly Power Supplies are pretty cheap even compared to graphics cards. A 600W will only run you about 50-60$(Canadian pricing, could be more or less in your currency, whatever it may be). Whereas the graphics card will probably end up being over 100$.

Tandem: No. SLI demands two equivalent video cards.

As for a video card that needs 300W or less... no dice. Maybe the lowest of the low of the N2XXs... MAYBE.

Right now I've got a Nvidia Neforce gts 240. it's a 300 watt, and it's sub 100$ and it's been running great. New vegas looks good, and it can do Bad company 2 on medium with no problems, and on high it only bugs occasionally. Although I'm looking to upgrade for something that can do directx 11 for when battlefield 3 comes out.

Plus the fact that the embedded video is disabled automatically when you install a dedicated video card.
